Rey (Jedi Training) (Crait) - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figures (Exclusive)

At long last, Rey found Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi Master in the galaxy. Hoping to find a hero of legend, she must unlearn what she has learned as Skywalker challenges her expectations.

You saw our first look at this figure the day before this review, so have you had time to digest where it ranks when compared to all of the other Rey (Jedi Training) figures released thus far? In all honesty, there are many aspects of the Rey (Jedi Training) (Crait) figure that make her uniquely superior to all previous versions. Then again, some might find the improvements we see as detriments to the figure instead. We have already stated that this figure is a bit of an enigma, a conundrum of sorts. When you look at the figure, you’ll likely be taken by its presence. You may even feel that it may just be the best Rey 6” figure Hasbro has produced to date. But then you look more closely, and you don’t understand why they’ve done what they’ve done to this figure. So let’s looks at all of the details one by one and see where this figure truly stands. The first thing obviously noticeable to us is the improvement to how the eyes were painted. Both the SDCC exclusive version and the Rey (Jedi Training) (44) figure have dreadfully painted eyes (where the whites of the eyes are leaking onto the face of the figure). Hasbro has tightened up these paint operations tremendously, and we had to take a second glance at this figure to make sure that the new “photo realistic” technology wasn’t used on this figure too. (It’s not utilized here, but this should give you some indication of how improved these deco details are.) Some questions you need to ask yourself for this release is, does any Star Wars collector need ANOTHER Rey 6” figure in the “same” outfit? And should we have to pay more just to get a few extra bells and whistles.

Rey (Jedi Training) (Crait) has a bizarrely colored skin tone. It’s almost zombie-like is quality. There are reddish and purplish elements in the tone, and around her eyes show signs of this strangely colored skin. Rey appears to be a little banged up while on Crait. She even sports a cut on her right arm. Obviously, there is something strenuous happening on this planet. Hasbro has recreated some battle-damage here which we hope makes her screen-accurate to the upcoming film. While this reddish/purplish skin tone is jarring when compared to the regular release version of this figure, it does give a different overall emotion to this character and disqualifies her superhero-like powers on Starkiller Base when she confronted Kylo Ren. Hopefully, Episode VIII gives us a chance to see a down-to-earth version of this currently terrible character. Seeing the new clips from the trailers and picking out clues from the toys gives us some hope that a change of pace for this character is imminent. Rey (Jedi Training) (Crait) is a significant retool of the figure from 2017’s TBS [P3] Rey (Jedi Training)/Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) SDCC exclusive two-pack. Hasbro thought ahead and designed a figure where the plastic molded outer robes where separately tooled pieces. They removed them from this release and added soft-goods instead. We typically appreciate any inclusion of soft-goods on Star Wars figures, but these looks ratty and tattered and just doesn’t match the texture of her costume. Also, Hasbro gave this figure an all-new belt which obviously no longer attaches to the lower molded robes.

As far as accessories are concerned, Rey (Jedi Training) (Crait) does offer quite a bit. You get seven individual items here to complement the figure. Included are the standard staff (with strap) and lightsaber (which breaks down into hilt and blade). Also included and exclusive to this release are a diecast metal blaster and a diecast metal lightsaber hilt. These extras are unnecessary at best but add to the exclusivity of this release. They’re not too heavy so that the Rey figure can hold them with no issues whatsoever. Also, the blaster fits in her holster perfectly, and the lightsaber hilt looks perfectly in scale to the plastic hilt. The big accessories here are the two separate environmental pieces of Crait. They’re beautifully sculpted and simply decorated, but provide a backdrop to this character. It honestly looks like a broken fan stuck in the middle of a steak if you just glance at the environmental backdrop, but we’re sure we’ll find out more about what this is in the film. The two separate pieces are meant to “snap” together, but our two pieces didn’t fit together as smoothly as we had hoped. Still, it’s possible to situate these two pieces together. They just don’t lay as flatly as they should in our opinion. Rey (Jedi Training) (Crait) looks great on the environmental pieces. These Deluxe sets score high marks for the great large pieces added to them, which give some depth and dimension to the new Sequel Trilogy characters. The price is where we struggle most with this release. At most, the Rey (Jedi Training) (Crait) set shouldn’t exceed $24.99. This set retails for $34.99. That’s too high for what you get here.
