S.H. Figuarts is a new standard figure series that incorporates the Bandai action figure "Art" under the theme "Pursuing Character Expression through Humanoid Action."
If you’re in the market for high-end six-inch scaled Star Wars action figures, collectors have quickly realized to look no further than the S.H. Figuarts line from Tamashii Nations/Bandai. In fact, it is believed that they could be the ones most proud of the line evidenced by the risks taken in such a short time and the breadth of characters chosen to be produced in this hyper-articulated scale. Not only are the creating human characters and armored characters, but they’ve also broken into various droids. To date, they're likely the greatest versions of these characters any 6” scaled line will ever see. With a focus on the Original Trilogy and a fair peppering of characters from new Disney Star Wars Entertainment, S.H. Figuarts is a balanced line. And that’s likely why this line is getting incredibly embraced by those who love this scale. Unparalleled in approach and design and with more accessories and alternate attachments that make Hasbro’s The Black Series 6” line pale in comparison, S.H. Figuarts may be the line that eventually takes over the collecting community. They just need to start adding aliens into the mix, and they may just conquer all other licenses.
C-3PO (A New Hope) is a long-awaited release for the S.H. Figuarts line. It’s not that it took years and years before they started addressing the most popular protocol droid in the Star Wars universe. But a main character like C-3PO should be at the beginning of any Star Wars figure line as far as we’re concerned. The simplest way to describe C-3PO (A New Hope) is perfect. That’s quite a descriptor, but we think we have the proof of why this is so. C-3PO (A New Hope) is perfectly scaled with the other figures in the line. S.H. Figuarts gave him as close to a vac-metalized finish as possible. In fact, we think this figure’ finish supersedes vac-metalization in a few ways. This version of C-3PO represents a “less” clean version of him and gold color utilized here brings that point home. His features are perfectly replicated. The face truly resembles the onscreen character. The silhouette of his body is near perfection. His movement also imitates the onscreen character step by step, and it is incredibly functional to recreate his poses from the Star Wars saga. He comes with two extra sets of interchangeable hands and a removable faceplate: the alternate face plate comes with a dent just as we saw in A New Hope.
He also comes with a very tiny but very important communicator. This accessory is fondly remembered in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, and S.H. Figuarts graciously sculpted two hand attachments which can secure it in place as if he is using it. When you remove the faceplate, you’ll also find a removable “photoreceptor screen” which populate the holes in the face plate to give C-3PO (A New Hope) his signature look. We’re not exactly sure why it is removable, but if you do remove it, you will find two white bulbs in the eye socket area. C-3PO (A New Hope) has never looked creepier if you display him in this manner. Beyond, C-3PO (A New Hope) brings everything we could have possibly imagined to the table. He has great deco and plenty of accessories. And of course, he has more articulation than we would ever need. All the joints function wonderfully. You can have him lean, run, sit, walk, and a bevy of other actions. We’re so excited about this release that we hope S.H. Figuarts has the energy and stamina to bring us Episode I and Episode II versions of C-3PO in the future. This is honestly going to be the best version of C-3PO (A New Hope) you’re going to find. You should check this figure out more closely.
