A new chapter of the Star Wars galaxy unfolds in the new film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story starring the courageous new character named Jyn Erso! Sideshow and Hot Toys are very excited to officially introduce a Deluxe Version of the widely anticipated sixth scale Jyn Erso collectible figure! Meticulously crafted based on the appearance of Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso in the film, the highly life-like collectible figure features a newly developed head sculpt, sophisticatedly tailored costume with multiple layers, detailed weapons and accessories including a blaster pistol, fighting baton, E-11 blaster rifle, and figure stand.

This Deluxe Version will exclusively feature an additional costume including a poncho with bandolier, a breathing mask, hat with goggles, quadnoculars, and additional blaster parts for Jyn’s unique blaster that can be combined into multiple modes.

The dichotomy of opinion that gets created with Hot Toys figures is interesting. Some collectors feel that these one-sixth scale figures are shrunken down versions of the actors, while others think they look nothing like them. We have been of the opinion that these do look exactly like the onscreen actors and we have been impressed with each successive release since the Movie Masterpiece Series began. Hot Toys takes a stab at Jyn Erso from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and we think she turned out splendidly. The Deluxe Edition of this figure allows you to display her in six unique configurations, three of which we saw in the film. There all here and represented well. Whether you’re looking for her looks on Jedha, Eadu and Scarif, thanks to the ingenious costuming of the figure you’re able to recreate these very things. But you also have the option of creating three outfits that are not screen-specific too. The interchangeability of the figure doesn‘t end there, however. Hot Toys also created complex weaponry. Both the baton and rifle come with modular pieces so you can build the exact configuration of the weapon you want, as opposed to having fully assembled separate weapon configurations. How brilliant is this?

The figure’s portrait is not only beautifully decorated, it’s complexly made. It comes with an interchangeable magnetic hair ‘cap’ which swaps out for magnetic hat and goggles. This allows you to achieve very scene-specific versions of her with seamlessness and grace. While the portrait looks jarring without one of the two included attachments, you are completely awestruck by how ingenious this approach was. The “regular” edition is the same as the “Deluxe Version” save for a bunch of extra accessories. These include four (4) additional parts to create various weapon configurations, quadnoculars, poncho, bandolier with a breathing mask, interchangeable hat & goggles and exclusive packaging. As we don’t own the regular version, we’re unsure if that version’s portrait is solid or also has removable magnetic attachments as well. The outfits are very well done with topnotch fabricating and weaving. They truly look like real clothing. The poncho is tricky to get on, but once it is on it has a beautiful drape and completes her outfit beautifully. From head to toe, you’ll find the Jyn Erso (Deluxe Edition) is another remarkable highlight from the Movie Masterpiece Series line of one-sixth scale figures.

For us, the highlight of the Deluxe Version is the addition of the poncho, hat and the rifle parts. It makes for a completely different figure, almost to the point of also wanting to get the regular version so you can have her from different scenes. But where the figure makes up for diversity and interchangeability, it lacks in movement, sadly. The Jyn Erso (Deluxe Edition) is not particularly poseable. This is likely due to the tight pants. We were unable to bend the figure’s legs with any useful range of movement. As a result, a “kneeling” pose is out of the question. Additionally, the lack of articulation and softness in the boots causes the figure to fall easily. You’ll discover that you’ll need the included action figure display stand more than you wanted to utilize it. But the figure tends to want to fall backward all the time. Despite some of Jyn Erso (Deluxe Edition)’s setbacks, the figure looks beautiful. The figure truly resembles the actress, and, as a reminder, the outfits are beautifully sewn. They enhance this already great figure. With an MSRP of $249.99, Jyn Erso (Deluxe Edition) should be on the list of all collectors who enjoyed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. She has been executed brilliantly.
