There was a bit of speculation on what figures would make up the latest Star Wars Entertainment four-pack set to be released concurrently with The Last Jedi on Blu-ray. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long to get our answers. Once the figures got announced, many questioned why certain figures in the set were chosen to make up this set. Entitled “Battle On Crait,” the set includes the obligatory Rey (Crait Defense), Rose (Crait Defense), First Order Walker Driver and First Order Gunner. The latter wasn’t even on Crait at any time during the film. And the other First Order member wasn’t even visible in any of The Last Jedi’s scenes, although believed to be still “screen accurate” if you could indeed see him. To call this set the “Battle On Crait” is a bit of a misnomer. But it still brings four figures from the film together. In typical Hasbro fashion, they’ve included both previous toolings as well as all-new tolling to this multipack set. And the set brings two first-time offered figures to the table. With added Force Link technology, kids and collectors get an added premium, but articulation is still a problem. These figures should be able to attain more poses than they do, but this is the hands 5POA has dealt.
Rey (Crait Defense) is a repaint of 2017’s SW [TLJ] Rey (Jedi Training) figure. This time the figure has white salt on her boots. It’s not easy to consider her “new enough,” but for hardcore collectors, a differing paint job like this is worthy of another purchase. Interestingly, she comes with some new phrases, while others have been repeated from past figures. Her paint operations look on par when compared to past figures, and she comes with the standard blaster pistol, staff, and lightsaber that we have seen many times before this particular release. Rose (Crait Defense) is essentially an all-new figure. But Hasbro has reused the legs from the Rose (First Order Disguise) figure that was released in the Two-Packs assortment recently. She comes with a removable poncho and Resistance blaster rifle. The figure is pretty, but our sample has off-centered paint operations which give her a wonky appearance. As we have stated many times before, Rose turned out to be a rather interesting character in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, and aside from her saving Finn’s failed kamikaze move, we’re interested to see where the development of her character goes.
First Order Walker Driver has a clumsy name, but the action figure is cool. He is supposedly the driver of the knuckle-dragging AT-M6 vehicles during the Battle of Crait. We only saw all-white First Order Snowtroopers make their way across the white and red Crait terrain, but the First Order Walker Driver was in the cockpit of the vehicle, and we didn’t get to see the inside of it all that much. It is a retool and repaint of 2015’s TFA First Order Snowtrooper Build A Weapon figure, but this time the figure has been repainted with gray accents and has been given Force Link technology. Of course, none of the lines are dialogue from the film. The last figure is the First Order Gunner, the Sequel Trilogy of the Death Star Gunner. It is a pretty nice, albeit simple, action figure. He comes with a blaster pistol that is held well in either hand. The sculpt is excellent, and aside from suffering from a lack of articulation, the figure is very, very nice. We hope Hasbro revisits it in super-articulation. Overall, the Battle On Crait multipack is a nice set. Rey (Crait Defense) feels like a sorely wasted slot, but there is enough newness to make this worthwhile.
