Sideshow are proud to present the latest addition to our rogue’s gallery of galactic bounty hunters – Dengar!
This cold-blooded Corellian is a veteran of countless bounties who has tirelessly pursued his targets since before the Clone Wars, but those decades of work have taken their toll. His weather-beaten face is now heavily scarred, but the cold dead eyes of this remorseless man-hunter are as bright and hungry as ever!
Available exclusively through Sideshow, every inch of this iconic character has been lovingly and painstakingly reproduced by our artists. From the worn fabric that encompasses his grizzled visage to his much-used (and much feared!) Valken-38 Blaster Carbine and DL-21 Blaster Pistol, our Dengar Sixth Scale Figure captures every nuance of this remorseless mercenary’s character.
Fully articulated, our Sixth Scale Dengar figure features a highly detailed movie-accurate head portrait with a fabric face cover and sculpted head wrap. His outfit includes a padded fabric under-suit, flight suit, belt, and pouches (including a leather-like holster), sculpted boots, and a highly detailed backpack which contains both sculpted and fabric components.
Each Dengar figure also comes complete with four sets of hands, his Blaster Pistol and Carbine, and a Hex Base for display emblazoned with the Star Wars logo.
Add the Dengar Sixth Scale Figure to your Star Wars bounty hunter collection today!
It’s been incredibly rewarding to get all six bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back produced in Sideshow Collectibles’ ever-improving 1:6 Scale Figures line. It has taken some time to build up the group of six sinister members full of scum and villainy, but the payoff is here as Dengar and Zuckuss round out the group with artistry and screen-accuracy. Dengar is a fan-favorite character for many reasons. He’s a Corellian like Han Solo. He was supposedly injured by Han Solo. And in the old Expanded Universe, he’s best friends with Boba Fett. So how could you not adore him? In the vintage Kenner line, he was one of the very first peg-warmers of the brand. But we all wanted him regardless as we knew deep inside that this bad dude had a past and a back story that developed in our tiny minds as children. Now that we’re close to forty years out from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, collectibles based on the characters from the film are awaited more than ever. The last one-sixth scale Dengar produced was just the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Dengar produced by Gentle Giant Ltd. years ago. And before that was the one produced by Hasbro for the Star Wars “Saga” [Phase I] line. The high-end version of Dengar is a superb release. We would have personally changed a few of the approaches up a bit, but for the most part, we think Sideshow Collectibles has delivered a stellar collectible here.
Let’s talk about a couple of the small things that bother us about Dengar. Then we’ll get onto the great stuff. Firstly, we don’t like how high the sculpted head wrap sits on top of his head. Yes, there was some height to this feature in Episode V, but it looks too towering on this figure. We’re not sure what went wrong here, but it sadly looks off, and it looks no from any angle you ogle him. The other issue, and it’s a small issue, is that Sideshow Collectibles didn’t fully sculpt his ears. When you remove his fabric head covering and molded head wrap, you’ll discover that Dengar has a bald head. But instead of fully developed ears he has two stumps instead. Would it have been that hard to design “fully functioning” ears for him? It’s a minor disappointment, but you can’t display him without covering his head and ears now otherwise he looks silly. The rest of Dengar, however, looks incredible. His armor is close-fitting, and his fabric clothing underneath doesn’t bunch up or collect. He’s a tad pudgy in the torso, and this also matches the onscreen character perfectly as well. His gloves and boots look like they’ve been created from real suede, as they have that luxurious, rich texture of that highly regarded fabric. The textures throughout Dengar are extraordinarily lifelike, and we’re impressed how everything has come together. On top of all of the textures working beautifully, Sideshow Collectible has painted Dengar just as beautifully. He’s a work of art.
His backpack is removable and has both metal and fabric components. It mirrors the prop perfectly. Dengar comes with two weapons as well. Firstly, a DL-21 blaster pistol has been included. This can also be placed in his right thigh holster when not in use. His more common weapon, the Blaken-38 blaster carbine is another work of art. He includes hand attachments which make holding this blaster rifle possible. What’s more, Dengar can be easily positioned in a way that imitates his onscreen appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. You couldn’t ask for a more impressive interpretation of him than this. We’re particularly taken with his head sculpt and the deco that was applied to his face. It’s hard to find close-ups of Dengar’s face from Episode V, but it’s evident that the creators at Sideshow Collectibles had access to reference materials to make Dengar’s portrait a reality. It looks just like him, albeit, a far-away version of him. Ever since Sideshow Collectibles adopted a “photorealistic” quality and applied it to their figures, their 1:6 Scale Figures line has been tough to top. They are neck-to-neck with Hot Toys now and both companies are giving each other a run for their money. Dengar retails for $239.99. It’ hard to believe that ten years has brought the MSRP of these figures from $50 to well above $200. But that’s the price one pays when he or she is a Star Wars collector. Dengar is worth your money however. It’s a figure worth adding to your collection.
