Mandalorian supercommando Fenn Shysa struggles to free Mandalore from the grip of slavers. His close friend Tobbi Dala has been captured by the slavers, but Shysa has someone they want even more: the bounty hunter Dengar. Princess Leia needs Dengar for her own reasons: he can lead her to Boba Fett, who is holding the carbonite-frozen Han Solo. But Shysa's not about to let her stop a prisoner exchange that will free his friend.
Is it a distinct possibility that vibrant paint colors can make figures look better than they actually are? This is seemingly true for the Fenn Shysa/Dengar Comic Packs set that was one release of many in The Legacy Collection. Oddly painted figures seems to becoming a mainstay in the Hasbro line and this set offers two more for collectors. A newly introduced Mandalorian (or at the very least Mandalorian dressed) character gets his first chance at retail in addition to an old favorite in a new paint scheme. The final outcomes are pretty fantastic and we are perplexed why it hits home as well as it does. Interestingly, this set has significantly much better results than the Princess Leia/Tobbi Dala Comic Packs set (both sets are culled from the same source). Perhaps it's because the base figure utilized to make the included figures are a little bit more modern than the figures contained in the latter, but we do know that this set has exceeded our expectations in ways that we probably can't even explain. But we can tell you that if you decide to give this set a second look, we are confident you will be pleasantly surprised.
We always thought that the 2004 SW [S - P3] Dengar (Executor Meeting) ('04 #17) figure was a pretty great figure. Actually, if Hasbro never visited him again, we probably would have remained rather happy with him. Yes, he is far from perfect, but he has a great portrait and great center body sculpting. His backpack looks stupendous and since all Dengar needs to do is stand around he has plenty of articulation for display purposes. So Hasbro took that 2004 figure and painted him in the colors of the comics. While Dengar looks a little too purple, his primary and secondary color palette suits him well for the comic's purpose. He comes with the same gun as the basic figure and it fits splendidly in his hands and can be posed in various fashions as needed to accentuate your dioramas. We would be willing to bet that you may be impressed with this release of Dengar. He isn't earth shattering, but there is something so unique about him that he grasps your interest and it is hard to look away. And he is a familiar bounty hunter so how can you go wrong? You know you want and animated take on Dengar!
Fenn Shysa is definitely the better figure in the set, although Dengar's paint application can absolutely rival the paint job that was given to Fenn Shysa. But they are both painted in very bright and dramatic basic colors. The very rich golds, greens, purples, reds and whites make for very striking figures. And once again, these aren't the greatest action figures we have ever received, but it is extraordinary that such simple coloring makes for spectacular action figures. Fenn Shysa is a repaint of the 2007 TAC The Fett Legacy Evolutions Jango Fett figure but of course this time comes with a new head and some other minor tweaking. The figure is super-articulated and it is actually intriguing to see the Jango body in these very boisterous colors. We really do appreciate Hasbro seeking out the characters from the Marvel comic series. While we understand that not everyone is interested in the very unique paint schemes, a lot of familiar characters get picked as the choices for th Comic Packs so it's neat to get our favorite characters in "animated" form. We hope that Hasbro will continue this trend because there is a wealth of characters yet to be made from Marvel. But we will have to wait and see where the line goes.
