The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.
Ever since the Disney takeover of Star Wars, it feels like Star Wars collecting has turned into a sad dichotomy of “love it” and “it would have been better never produced.” Any middle ground between these two areas of thought seemingly doesn’t exist anymore. To be one way or the other is a sad testament to us. Because even though a style of a figure may not grab you right away, to immediately discount what it brings to the “collecting” table is like throwing away a car because it has a couple of bad springs. Enter the Star Wars Toybox line. These Disney Infinity inspired super-articulated action figures are some of the most refreshing figures on the market today. There is a pile of collectors that adore them. And then there are others that turn into Mr. Hyde when they look at them. For us, we appreciate the artwork they bring to the Star Wars action figure line. And between the dynamic sculpting and beautiful paint operations, we have to admit that these interpretive action figures rival some of Hasbro’s great past efforts (when they focused on animation-styled action figures). The Boba Fett Toybox figure is beautiful because of its skewed animated style, but it’s also beautiful because it was inspired by the 1979 Kenner Boba Fett action figure (as far as its deco is concerned). Check it out.
Boba Fett will forever remain the consummate Star Wars action figure. The mysteriousness of the character joined by the colorful uniform and awesome weapons has jettisoned him to the top of the collecting food chain. Every collectible created in his image is a roaring success. These pieces are highly sought after, and it feels like licensees cannot make enough of him to satisfy the market demand. Disney cleverly added Boba Fett to their second wave of Toybox figures, and we are thoroughly impressed with their approach. They decorated Boba Fett in the same way they did their Disney Infinity figure (the unarticulated one), and this color scheme is a replica of the 1979 Kenner Star Wars Boba Fett figure. Disney imitated the color palette of the original figure perfectly. Boba Fett has a grayish-blue jumpsuit. His left gauntlet is yellow, and his right gauntlet is red. The color of his helmet matches the color of his jumpsuit. His knee armor is yellow. His chest plate is green. And the only differences we can spot from the Kenner action figure are his boots (which are now tan) and a green flowing (and tattered) cape which didn’t make it to the original Kenner action figure. We don’t know how it will be possible for any Boba Fett fan to pass on this latest action figure. It is beautifully decorated and is super-articulated. What more could anyone want?
Boba Fett is loaded with articulation, and the articulation is premium. 27 points of articulation grace this figure and unlike some previous releases, Boba Fett makes the most of them. Aside from his belt catching the thighs, the articulation isn’t hindered elsewhere on the figure. Boba Fett is mostly free to move as you please and he can achieve some impressive poses thanks to his wonderful articulation system. Unlike previous Boba Fett action figures produced by other licensees, Boba Fett’s jetpack isn’t removable. Nor is his rocket. That’s fine. The Disney Toybox figures are simple in that respect, and we appreciate the average “one accessory per figure for this line. Speaking of the accessory, Boba Fett comes with an exquisitely detailed sawed-off blaster rifle. The blaster fits into his right hand rather well. What’s more, you can use his left hand to “cup” the barrel of the blaster and achieve a bevy of other stunning poses with this figure because of this. Boba Fett is a highlight of the Star Wars Toybox line. We strongly hope that Disney will continue with Original Trilogy characters because they’re turning out beautifully. With a release of three figures at a time, Disney stores can keep a fair pace of these figures that doesn’t inundate the market while giving collectors time to catch up with the releases in this awesome line.
