Well, it’s official. Hot Toys has taken the plunge and created the very first version of Boba Fett from The Star Wars Holiday Special, complete in his brilliant animated look. They weren’t the first license to attempt this outfit for Boba Fett Hasbro won that award when they produced the Animated Debut: Boba Fett (30 24) figure which was part of the 30 (77-07) line. The 2007 Hasbro figure went over hugely with collectors and we hoped that they would make action figures based on characters from that wonderful animated short. Now Hot Toys answers the call and produces the first Star Wars figure in the Television Masterpiece Series which is Boba Fett (Animation Version). Let us get it out immediately. This is perhaps the greatest figure that Hot Toys has made to date for Star Wars. Not only is it incredibly special to get something deep in the Expanded Universe, but for it to be Boba Fett makes it that much more special. This one-sixth scale figure is stunningly beautiful. From helmet to boot, Boba Fett (Animation Version) has captured every last detail of the animated character in a realistic style. Let’s looks at the figure a little more closely.
We tend to be in the minority about this, but we’re happy when Hot Toys figures aren’t loaded with a ridiculous amount of accessories. Interchangeable hands are one thing, but sometimes these figures can be overwhelming with parts. Boba Fett (Animation Version) doesn’t have this problem at all. He comes with the perfect amount of accessories. You still get the utility tools that stow in the pockets on his shins and the obligatory blaster pistol fits into the real-leather holster. But aside from a few sets of extra hand attachments and a prod, Boba Fett (Animation Version) comes perfectly accessories and you’re able to enjoy all of the parts fully. The thing that will stand out the most loudly for collectors is the color scheme of this figure. Boba Fett (Animation Version) is gorgeous. The blue helmet and the yellow chest armor is complemented with a brown and red cape and brown leather holster. His belt is also colored in blue. Boba Fett (Animation Version) stands out from all other Star Wars Hot Toys figures. They did a magnificent job on the artful aspects on Boba Fett (Animation Version). Collectors are going to be thrilled.
The prod/blaster weapon is awesome. It makes us wish Hot Toys would go out on a ledge and make the brontosaurus-looking sea creature along with this figure. It is highly detailed and accurately colored. And they provided the perfect hand attachments to make the most use of it. Posing Boba Fett (Animation Version) with it is a whole lot of fun too. You have a wide range of posing options with this figure thanks to its complex articulation system. The only issue with this figure is that there won’t be enough other figures produced to complement it. It would be great if they introduced Luke Skywalker or Chewbacca from The Star Wars Holiday Special into this line too, but there aren’t enough differences in these characters from their movie parts where it would make much sense at all. The Boba Fett (Animation Version) is exclusively available from Sideshow Collectibles in the USA, and then in limited numbers through other outlets in other territories. The figure has an MSRP of $235 which isn’t too terrible, but out of the range of most collectors. If you love nostalgia, however, this figure is for you!
