Detailed Visual Analysis

R5-D4

General Analysis

Having always been a fan of the droids in Star Wars, R5-D4 was undoubtedly one of my favorite figures from the STAR WARS line. Unique yet similar to Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2), R5-D4 added a splash of color to our STAR WARS collections while providing an additional character from the unforgettable “purchase of the droids” scene in Episode IV. R5-D4 borrows a couple of parts from its predecessor, but also comes with quite a bit of newness as well. My friends and I loved his trapezoidal-shaped dome and the three photoreceptors, despite their screen-inaccuracy. But as the Kenner line got bigger and bigger, I found new uses for this little astromech droid that I simply didn’t expect. One of my most favorite memories was when I added R5-D4 to the Y-wing Fighter. And I loved situating him with other Rebel action figures to recreate scenes inspired from scenes from RETURN OF THE JEDI. R5-D4 isn’t perfect, but the droid holds up well in the vintage Kenner line. R5-D4 looks excellent in the Radio Controlled Sandcrawler or within a lineup of other droids. It offers incredible versatility.
