Solo: A Star War Story was a breath of fresh air after the community-dividing Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi film. Solo: A Star Wars Story was full of creatures, both new and recognizable, and provided a landscape that immediately drew in Star Wars fans of all ages because of its familiarity. Some found the film weak and that it pandered to the audience, but overall Star Wars fans felt satisfaction from the film. The Star Wars [Solo] line from Hasbro hasn’t been too exciting by comparison, but as new products get revealed, it appears that the line is set up to become an overall interesting hybrid of familiar and unfamiliar as well. The problem is that most of us won’t find any of the successive waves because the line is already coming to a standstill, thanks to poor case assortments and retail’s overall agnosticism to the Star Wars brand. We’ve slowly experienced this trend since The Force Awakens line, and the last couple waves of products in a line-look never reach retail in time, and has to be saved by an online retailer or get canceled altogether. We say all this to make the point that if the future Star Wars [Solo] products don’t get out, collectors will be very disappointed people. The latest wave of Two-Packs border on excellence (for 5POA figures) and we hope that everyone has a chance to purchase them, if people want them.
The Rebolt/Corellian Hound Two-Packs set brings together humanoid and beast, something that Hasbro hasn’t aligned together in quite some time. What’s more, the Corellian Hound comes with an intricately tooled cage that is not only beautiful in design but functional in nature. It breaks down into multiple parts so it won’t distort when stored in a bin or anything. Even better, the Corellian Hound fits like a glove inside it. The Corellian Hound is a nice figure too and comes with more articulation than expected. (The Womp Rat from 2008’s The Legacy Collection Disturbance At Lars Homestead didn’t come close to this figure’s articulation.) Even more impressive is that the Corellian Hound comes with a removable leash and harness which allows you to display it with multiple looks. The beast comes with four swivel legs (two shoulders and two hips) but comes with a ball-socket head with a hinge-jointed lower jaw. Reminiscent of 2002’s Star Wars “Saga” [Phase I] Nexu Deluxe figure, the Corellian Hound will resonate with fans in the Star Wars collecting community. It’s very rare when we get cool characters like this in the toy line. The Corellian Hound is one of these “so-called” cool characters. You have to pay close attention to the sculpt of the Corellian Hound. If you’re not careful, you’ll mistake its nostrils for its eyes as we did initially. Also, in case you didn’t know, Lucasfilm used real dogs in costume to create these beasts. How cool is that?
Rebolt is an interesting character. But in all honesty, we don’t recall seeing this character in the film. (That doesn’t mean he wasn’t in Solo: A Star Wars Story of course.) Perhaps a better name for him would be Rebot. Whether because of his facial structure, we are immediately reminded of Lobot from The Empire Strikes Back. What’s more, he also reminds us of Kenner’s Cloud Car Pilot figure too, thanks to the use of bright orange and pale yellow that adorns his head. From the neck down he shares nothing from these two characters from Episode V. In fact, Rebolt looks like one of Coruscant’s elite from the Prequel Trilogy era in all honesty. Rebolt isn’t the most exciting Star Wars character we have seen in our many years collecting, but according to Wikipedia he works with the White Worm gang, and that’s about all we know at this point. Rebolt comes with a staff that looks like it was made from copper piping. He can hold it with both hands. The great news here is that the figure comes with swivel wrists which aid in allowing him to hold the staff with relative ease. Together, Rebolt and the Corellian Hound look great together. It would be great to know more of Rebolt’s background. We’re surprised that Hasbro focused on this character with little to no backstory or role in the film, but this approach is what made the Kenner line so special for us when we were young. We hope this Two-Packs set does well so we can get more like it.
