Bespin Security Guard

Detailed Visual Analysis

Bespin Security Guard

General Analysis

The second Bespin Security Guard in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK line was a pleasant surprise. If you think about it, the Bespin Security Guard was Kenner’s first army-building figure with a running change. Commonly known as the black Bespin Security Guard, and more specifically known as Sergeant Edian, the figure entered the final series of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK line in 1982, and it gave the collection a wholly relandscaped feel as far as its population was concerned. When you have characters wearing the same uniforms, it’s nice to see the toy company making them thinking outside of the box and create diversity and versatility in a simple action figure line that desperately needed it. It’s nice when Kenner prevented the same outfitted characters from looking like carbon copies of each other. In the case of the 1982 THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Bespin Security Guard, it shares no similar parts to the 1980 version. This figure is significantly shorter in stature, and the size of his limbs is noticeably shorter as well. Still, the Bespin Security Guard looked great fleshing out our displays involving anything Bespin related, especially when playtime included the Slave I (Boba Fett’s Spaceship).

Hasbro's Most Definitive Modern Counterpart: 2022's THE VINTAGE COLLECTION Bespin Security Guard (Isdam Edian) (VC239) figure.
