Hasbro knows how to develop some interesting exclusive multipacks for the STAR TOURS line. In the past, Hasbro focused on single-carded action figures and worked them into the line look at the time. We received quite a few droids from the STAR TOURS attraction in the Power Of The Jedi, Star Wars [Saga - Phase II] and The Original Trilogy Collection line looks. After that, Disney asked for a more consistent line look, and Hasbro opted for an OTC-styled type of packaging which remained in effect ever since. The Jedi Training Academy multipack approaches the STAR TOURS attraction in a completely different way. Instead of focusing on droids and the like, Disney and Hasbro produced a set that focused on the interaction of theme park guest and staff on the Jedi arts. And it was this theme park attraction that inspired the creation of the Jedi Training Academy multipack. As expected, Hasbro utilized older sculpts to produce this multipack, but they added a wealth of newness to the previously tooled parts to create four first-time offered action figures in addition to the obligatory Darth Vader peppered in for good luck. This set is kid-friendly and collector-friendly, so Hasbro hit success on all ends with this set.
Jedi Training Academy pits three Jedi Padawans and a Jedi Master against Darth Vader. It feels like that these characters will create an exciting battle with each other, so let’s take a closer look at how Hasbro made them a reality for this set. Jedi Padawan [A] is a young female with dark hair and reddish-brown robes. She is based on the Ashla figure that is part of 2003’s SW [S - P2] Ashla & Jempa (Jedi Padawans) (’03 #16) two-pack. This time Hasbro gave the body an all-new head sculpt and completely repainted the figure. She comes with a blue lightsaber. Jedi Padawan [B] is the older/taller Jedi in training. He is based on 2000’s POTJ Anakin Skywalker (Mechanic) figure. This time Hasbro gave the figure an all-new head sculpt and also completely repainted the figure. They also weaved a soft-goods cloak that fits the figure very nicely. He too comes with a blue lightsaber. The third and final young Jedi, Jedi Padawan [C] is a young black male. He is also based on the Ashla figure that is part of 2003’s SW [S – P2] Ashla & Jempa (Jedi Padawans) (’03 #16) two-pack. This time the figure has an all-new head sculpt and Hasbro completely repainted it. It is amazing how differently all of the Padawans look from each other.
It's remarkable what a new part and a complete repainting will do for an action figure. All three Jedi Padawans looks like all-new figures. Although imperfect, they’re still welcomed additions to the basic figure line. And now we have additional “Jedi children” to interact with the ones we received in the Star Wars “Saga” lineup. We’re also quite taken with the Jedi Master. He is based on 2005’s ROTS Agen Kolar (III 20) figure. But Hasbro went to town on changing up how this figure looks by including an all-new head sculpt, a completely different color scheme, and all-new soft-goods including a skirt and a luxurious soft-goods robe with a wired hood. He also comes with a two-part lightsaber which breaks down into hilt (which can also be attached to his belt – thanks to a plug on the hilt) and a green lightsaber blade. The figure is almost super-articulated, so he can achieve a wealth of position. He can also fit in somewhere in your Battle of Geonosis displays as a generic human male Jedi. He’s almost the reason you should purchase this set. Lastly, Hasbro repacked the 2004 OTC Darth Vader Vintage figure. It’s a dated figure at this point, but it serves its purpose in this set very well.
