Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figures (Exclusive)

Princess Leia Organa was one of the Rebel Alliance's greatest leaders, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the tyranny of the Empire. With her quick-thinking and inspired leadership, Leia ranks among the galaxy's great heroes.

Well, here is another The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figure Hasbro got right. Princess Leia (Bespin Escape), which in our opinion is another strange choice for a retailer exclusive, is the latest in TARGET’s long line of great exclusive 6” figures to complement the general marketplace figures. TARGET is one retailer where Hasbro Star Wars items seem to arrive with few issues, so it’s great that they’re receiving so many great characters in their exclusive program. It’s comforting to collectors when they know an item will arrive at some point at a store where they frequent. And despite all of the retail problems surrounding the Star Wars line, TARGET thrives relatively unscathed in the process. Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) is a first-time offering for the 6” line, but other versions of Princess Leia from The Empire Strikes Back are forthcoming, including more outfits from Episode V. For now, we’ll have to appreciate what Hasbro did with the Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) figure. And anyone remotely interested in the 6” line will discover that Hasbro did right by this figure, from it’s sculpt to its paint operations. This is probably the greatest Princess Leia figures in this scale to date.

Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) has a marvelous head sculpt and likeness. She is in perfect scale to the rest of the figures in the 6” line. She’s loaded with premium articulation including 27 points of ball-jointed, ball-socket and double hinge-jointed articulation, capable of allowing her to achieve almost any position you desire. Her movement is a bit more mobile than some other figure in the line. Nothing is encumbering their full potential, and they’re free to move as needed to assist you in creating some dynamic poses for this figure. Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) has a simple costume, and Hasbro tooled it extremely well. The costume is essentially her Hoth outfit without the vest and white shoes instead of boots. And her hairstyle is the one we see while she is wearing the maroon Bespin gown. All of these elements are perfectly in place to recreate this iteration of the character. A fantastic release for 6” collectors, 3.75” super-articulated collectors have waited much too long to see this version of Princess Leia in their scale. Hasbro always cobbled together existing parts but never made a completely screen-accurate version. We hope they take the blueprints from this figure and finally give us this long-awaited version of Princess Leia (Bespin Escape).

Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) is lightly accessorized, but that’s alright here. She comes with an E-11 blaster rifle. The inclusion of two would have been more appropriate. If you recall, in The Empire Strikes Back, Princess Leia held two E-11 blaster rifles in her hand while her Rebel friends were released from their shackles. In fact, Hasbro paid careful attention to this detail when they released 2001’s POTJ Leia Organa (Bespin Escape) figure. It was a great figure for the time, and she came with two blaster rifles. So we feel that Hasbro should have done the same with the 6” version. We suppose that because Hasbro produced so many version of Princess Leia from The Empire Strikes Back for 2018 that it makes sense that one or two should be exclusive to a retailer. But something about Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) feels that she should be a mainstream release and available in a case assortment that can be ordered online somewhere. To sum things up, we’d like to focus on the “photorealistic” technology employed on Princess Leia (Bespin Escape). It’s one of the finest executions we’ve seen in the 6” line to date. Hasbro is perfecting it, and 6” collectors should consider themselves fortunate. We hope the process continues to improve because Princess Leia (Bespin Escape) looks fantastic.
