(Boushh Disguise)
Who remembers the shock when in RETURN OF THE JEDI we saw Boushh remove her helmet and reveal Princess Leia Organa underneath? In retrospect, it’s quite easy to figure out who it was all along, but it was a major spoiler in 1983, and George Lucas did a fantastic job of keeping it a huge secret for the audience watching Episode VI for the first time. I received my Princess Leia Organa (Boushh Disguise) Kenner action figure that following Christmas, and I couldn’t believe that she came with a removable helmet. She was the first action figure from Kenner to have this feature. So that’s an important fact that keeps her special. Then Kenner recreated her blaster staff (to almost near perfection), and the accessory ended up taller than she was. Sadly, we didn’t get a thermal detonator accessory, but Kenner made up for that with a stunning recreation of her costume, an excellent likeness, and a sterling paint job. After Christmas, my mom would take my brother and me to various retail outlets and most sold Star Wars figures back in the day. I remember rushing to the back of Jamesway in Freehold, NJ to see if there were any new Star Wars items to ogle. And usually there was something there that I never saw previously, The reissued Patrol Dewback comes to mind as the starburst callout sticker noting its reissued status is emblazoned on my mind. I used my Princess Leia Organa (Boushh Disguise) figure for everything, including the Ewok Village playset until the 1984 figure became available. But Princess Leia Organa (Boushh Disguise) may be my most favorite interpretation of her. And the figure always stirs the greatest memories of my childhood and those recollections are still heartwarming.
