A "self-made droid" built from astromech and protocol parts, L3-37 is an enlightened navigator who cares deeply about droid rights.

Solo: A Star Wars Story may not have performed up to expectations, but the film provided a fun story to young and old Star Wars fans everywhere. The film met many fans’ expectations with a fun and energetic story filled with action, plot twists and a happy ending, but there were others who boycotted the film or just felt indifferent or agnostic about it from the start. The film provided the Star Wars community with a great cast of characters. And the film showed sacrifice, love, and determination to make wrongs right again. And overtly positive film, Solo: A Star Wars Story had many more positives than negatives for us. We’re glad to see so many different characters produced as action figures. But is Hasbro choosign the right ones? Let’s face it, L3-37 was a required character to manufacture, but did she need to be made so soon? She did have a major role in the film. She isn’t human. And she was good for one-liners, whether you liked them or not. But ultimately she didn’t go over all that well with audiences. Because of this, we’re curious to see if her action figure will suffer in the 6” line. Her performance may not have any impact at all, but typically characters not liked by audiences don’t necessarily do well as merchandise. There are of course exceptions.

It’s pretty amazing what you’re able to achieve with the L3-37 sculpt. While she looks like a simply constructed droid, the tooling is complex, and Hasbro worked in 19 points of articulation across 17 areas. Interestingly, she comes with two ball-jointed hands which are wasted tooling as far as we’re concerned since she doesn’t come with any accessories to make them useful. Still, we love articulation and welcoming of any premium articulation added to an action figure. The rest of the sculpt is a combination of swivel and hinge-jointed articulation. The joints are tight and she can attain most poses you create for her. Hasbro added to hinge-jointed feet which amount to two pieces of plastic that function as anchoring points for the figure when you want to pose her in some dynamic ways. They are of simple construction but offer great functionality to the figure. L3-37 looks like the onscreen character very much. Everyone should be able to appreciate this detail. But for those that didn’t like the character, be thankful you don’t have to hear this figure talk.

L3-37 comes with a very impressive paint job. We’re delighted with what Hasbro achieved working into this figure. The base color is elementary. L3-37 comes with a tan body. But Hasbro added green elements mixed with gray dirt. And then some of the finer details in the head sculpt and wiring in her groin area add the extra color that brings the character to life. You’ll find more deco with an insignia on top of her head. It’s triangular in shape and is green with a silver-lined perimeter. It adds accent and interest to this already fascinating character. And although many didn’t like her and reject that she is somehow part of the Millennium Falcon now, we have to admit that there were some scenes that we found entertaining. We find it a tad surprising that Hasbro made L3-37 a priority for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures line so soon. It feels like other characters are waiting to be represented in this scale that would work better in the 6” line. But with limited information made available to Hasbro, the timeframe they have to work in prevents them from creating a fully diverse line. They can only focus on the characters that Disney permits them to produce.
