(Skiff Guard Disguise)
Although I was suffering from the worst case of strep throat on Christmas morning in 1983, the fantastic Star Wars toys I received for Christmas presents were very helpful in making me forget about my ailment. I quickly learned how obsessed I became with removable helmets and seeing my favorite Rebel Alliance heroes in disguise. Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise) was another action figure from the 17 I received on Christmas Day that rose to the top of my favorites list. His skiff guard helmet was beautifully sculpted and fit on his head like a glove. And when wearing the helmet, you honestly couldn’t tell he was Lando Calrissian. And then I loved the vibro ax Kenner gave him too. He could hold it very well in his right hand, but not so well in his left hand. And like other figures I received, I enjoyed sending Lando to the mouth of the Sarlacc Pit from the board game I also received that Christmas. When Kenner launched 1995's THE POWER OF THE FORCE “2” [RED] line in the summer, it reignited my passion for Star Wars collecting. It was then when I learned of the variations that existed with Lando Calrissian (Skiff Guard Disguise). From various tones of skin color to different shades of gray used for the armor, I eventually caught myself up to accrue the most diverse Star Wars collection I ever had. Hasbro made some tremendous modern versions of this figure, but I still think we’re a step or two away from definitive status. Hopefully, a truly definitive version isn’t far from arriving.
