When RETURN OF THE JEDI reached its climax during the Battle of Endor, something grabbed me about Nien Nunb. We didn’t understand his language, nor did we need to understand it. He added some comic relief, yet he wasn’t a buffoon either. A bit more nervous and concerned than Lando Calrissian, B-wing pilot Nien Nunb got promoted to Lando Calrissian’s co-pilot for one of the most critical battles in which the Rebel Alliance would partake. The Nien Nunb action figure was another great figure by Kenner. And for me, he was a mail-away figure (and I assume a mail-away figure for many other young Star Wars fans across the USA). There is much debate on how to pronounce his name. I won’t get into all of that hear, but please don’t call him “Nine Numb.” I will leave it at that. Kenner did a fantastic job of recreating this onscreen character. The Nien Nunb action figure is colorful and to scale, and aside from wishing his head was shaped a bit differently with more prominent ears, I think he is a winning action figure overall. The figure comes with a black pilot blaster, and there are slight variations to its paint job depending upon where Kenner manufactured the figure. I wish he had more scenes in this outfit than just the Millennium Falcon, but he will always be another memorable character from RETURN OF THE JEDI for me. Hasbro supposedly gave us a definitive update of this character in THE VINTAGE COLLECTION, but the figure is too short and is missing important deco detail on his face. I hope Hasbro revisits this character soon.
