Barada

General Analysis

One of the many weird creatures who serves as a guard in the palace of JABBA THE HUTT.

This figure is NOT Barada, but if you’re a longtime Star Wars collector, you likely know this already. The fairest way to assess the vintage Kenner Barada is to say it’s a hybrid of both Baraa and Kithaba, but his coloring and most other of his details more closely align with Kithaba. While details in the costume are reminiscent of Klatooinian Barada, the action figure’s outfit coloring more closely mirrors the character Kithaba instead. So, this is how you get the mix of two characters in the action figure. As a young Star Wars action figure collector, I had no idea that my Barada wasn’t Barada. I don’t think I would have cared if I found out either. But it all came together for me as an adult collector when I wrote up an analysis to see how far Hasbro came making modern counterparts to the vintage Kenner line. It was great to get another action figure in the Kenner line that could outfit the 1985 Tatooine Skiff. But in all honesty, Barada was a misfit in the line as there weren’t too many figures he could interact with from the Battle of Carkoon scenes. I personally adore the Klatooinians, and this is a figure I still appreciate very much. Hasbro finally gave us a true modern update to the 1985 Barada figure with THE VINTAGE COLLECTION’s Kithaba (Skiff Guard) (VC56) figure, and it’s one of their finest efforts to date.

Hasbro's Most Definitive Modern Counterpart: 2012's THE VINTAGE COLLECTION Kithaba (Skiff Guard) (VC56) figure.
