The notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett prepares to deliver the carbonite-frozen Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt.

It’s pretty sad that is took Hasbro over a half of a decade to re-release Boba Fett for The Black Series 6” line. But thankfully, he’s one of the first four figures in the new The Black Series Archive line which promises to help collectors of the line fill in the holes in their collections with past 6” figures that now look better than ever. Boba Fett is another figure that received significant paint operation updates. The most noticeable difference for us is his chest armor. It feels like for the first time that Hasbro finally got the right shade of green for this release. The finer details, like the silver on his helmet for example, and the dirt accumulation on his flight suit, are all beautifully applied as well. Boba Fett truly has never looked better. And we’re honestly happy to see him added to the line once again. This time he’s on a card instead of inside of a box. And his coloring contrasts nicely against the silver, black and gray backgrounds featured in the card art of The Black Series Archive line. Boba Fett, based on his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back, is the best version of this figure released to date. It’s nice to see Hasbro paid extra careful attention to get everything right this time around.

It’s easy for collectors to get agitated when Hasbro repackages a figure so soon in any given toy line, but we believe most will overlook it in the case of Boba Fett. Originally available in the highly sought after 2013 TBS Boba Fett And Han Solo In Carbonite San Diego Comic Con exclusive set, and then part of The Black Series [Phase I] 6” basic figure line. And how he’s part of Hasbro’s first 6” “greatest hits” lineup! Boba Fett comes with all of the same accessories as before, and it’s good to see that they haven’t lost their detail or sharpness at all. The good news here is that Boba Fett probably looks as good as he ever will unless Hasbro produces an all-new figure. Aside from different (and better) paint operations throughout the figure, it’s the same old figure from yesteryear. Hasbro cast him in solid and sturdy plastic, and he feels great in your hands. Most know the figure’s plusses and minuses already. Boba Fett comes with an astounding 30 points of articulation and includes ball-socket hips, which is something we felt for years should have been included in the 3.75” scale. There are just some action figures that should not be made without this premium articulation. Boba Fett is just one example of a character that ALWAYS needs these points of articulation.

What’s unfortunate in Boba Fett’s case is that his pouches prevent full range of motion of the ball-jointed hips. This is as frustrating as it is sad and we don’t understand why Hasbro will put so much effort into something like enhanced articulation only to have it diminished by a sculpted design that inhibits it. But no matter what issues Boba Fett has, there is no denying that he is a one fantastic looking action figure. He is exactly the reason why we need The Black Series 6” line. And now that he’s been updated, collectors should be pleased about his re-release. Between the excellent proportions, the phenomenal details, and the excellent system of articulation points, Boba Fett is one of The Black Series 6” finest figures. Hasbro is rocking out the rocker ball-jointed ankle joints, and they too have quickly become a necessity for us not only in the 6” scale but also the 3.75” scale. We love them and believe most everyone else will as well. If we had to nitpick about something else, we don’t get why Hasbro exaggerates the length of his cape. We’re not sure why Hasbro didn’t take this opportunity to shorten its length. The Black Series 6” Boba Fett is still the show stealer in the line so far (and this is its third time released). It may be worthwhile to focus on OT troopers and other army-builders since this is where Hasbro excels the most.
