After getting kicked out of the Imperial Academy, Han Solo found himself dumped on Mimban as a mudtrooper. While there, Han met an Imperial prisoner named Chewbacca in an encounter that would change his life.

What a shame it is that Solo: A Star Wars Story flopped in theaters May 2018, because the products based on the film are still flowing from Hasbro. And many more are still forthcoming. The film was entertaining and gave us the backstory to one of Star Wars’ greatest heroes. But it appears the backlash of The Last Jedi affected the potential of Solo: A Star Wars Story more than expected, and now the merchandising is suffering. We find that egregious because Solo has a strong Original Trilogy feel to it, and the members of the Galactic Empire featured in it feel like a natural extension of the many Imperials we saw throughout the Original Trilogy. Take for instance the Han Solo (Mimban) figure. Smartly, we’re receiving this figure in every scale from Hasbro. The first version was part of the TARGET exclusive multipack, and then a basic carded release, Han Solo (Mimban) soon followed. Now The Black Series [Phase III] 6” version is out, and The Vintage Collection version is set for release by the fourth quarter of 2019. Essentially, all types of collectors are covered when it comes to this version of Han Solo. Admittedly, we find Han Solo (Mimban) an incredible look for Han Solo. The costuming is wonderful, and the extra gear is too cool for words. We’re thrilled to see an iteration of Han Solo like this get so much love from Hasbro.

You ought to know by now what to expect from the 6” line. Han Solo (Mimban) doesn’t break any new ground as far as its articulation, sculpting and deco are concerned. Hasbro has collectors covered for all of these areas. The figure is made of the highest quality imaginable. The plastic is solid, the coloring is perfect, and the figure possesses a likeness to the onscreen character. Thanks to “photorealistic” technology, the figure’s facial paint operations are stunning and represent the actor’s features beautifully. Han Solo (Mimban) has a complex helmet. It breaks down into a bucket, gas mask, and goggles. All three sections are separately sculpted parts but join together like puzzle pieces on the figure. The hoses from the mask plug into the back of the figure’s back armor. And the goggles have a real elastic band, which fits snugly over the bucket to stay in place as needed. You can also create different configurations of Han Solo: with or without the mask, and with or without the goggles. You have many choices here. He also comes with a poncho that bunches up behind him and contains holes, wrinkling, and battle-damage marks. This accessory hangs over his shoulders and is a bit cumbersome on the figure. Still, it adds a great amount of detail to the figure. He looks fantastic when fully assembled.

Han Solo (Mimban) comes with a blaster rifle too. It is tooled nicely and comes with a removable magazine. Its connection to the rifle is interesting. You slide it up and out and then you do the reverse to reattach it. It’s an odd feature to add to his weapon, but the addition is a nice gesture. Overall, Han Solo (Mimban) is another highlight of Hasbro’s The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. They should be very proud of this effort. Because there are other characters in Solo: A Star Wars Story that utilize this outfit and armor, we should expect a generic Mudtrooper action figure down the road. We don’t think it’s a guarantee in the line, but Hasbro would be foolish to not take advantage of this sculpt and produce a few more characters that can utilize it. If you haven’t[ come to appreciate Solo: A Star Wars Story yet, we can confirm with you that you’re missing a fun, energetic and exciting part of the Star Wars timeline. Again, it is loaded with Original Trilogy elements. Simply look at the details of Han Solo (Mimban)’s uniform. You’ll see the strong AT-AT Commander elements we see from The Empire Strikes Back. We’re glad to see more and more quality action figures based on Solo made for collector-friendly lines. And when they turn out this great, it only makes us hope that more are on the way.
