Hondo Ohnaka is a Weequay pirate turned legitimate business man.... most would just call him a smuggler. A rough-around-the-edges rogue, he would gladly sell his grandmother if there was money in it. He is ostensibly on the side of the Resistance, but he is first and foremost on the side of Hondo Ohnaka.
Small, flat-muzzled avians that flock about the rocks and roost in the cliffs of Ahch-To island, porgs are inquisitive creatures.
A scavenger toughened by life in Jakku's harsh deserts, Rey has been drawn into a galaxy-spanning conflict and learned that her life is being shaped by the mysterious power of the Force.
A legendary Wookiee warrior and Han SOlo's co-pilot aboard the Millennium Falcon, Chewbacca was part of a core group of rebels who restored freedom to the galaxy.
Hey, if it took Disney’s complete control of Star Wars to bring us a stunning realistic The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figure of Hondo Ohnaka, we’d say it was a win for collectors. In all seriousness, the Hondo Ohnaka 6” figure may not have been collectors’ prized possession for the 6” line, but longtime fans of The Clone Wars fell in love with this character years ago, and it’s fantastic to see the first realistic and super-articulated version of this space pirate in any scale quite honestly. Hondo Ohnaka is only one of “five” figures in the Smuggler’s Run multipack which is exclusive for Disney’s Galaxy's Edge theme park. Right now, the plans are unknown if Hondo Ohnaka will see a single basic figure release into the mainstream marketplace, but this exclusive set will be available online through Shop Disney within time. The set includes the aforementioned Hondo Ohnaka, Rey (Batuu) (which is simply the Rey (Jedi Training) figure with new “photorealistic” deco and few other paint job variances, Chewbacca (a repaint of the figure that was released in first wave of The Black Series [Phase III] figures), and two Porgs, one of which is an “all-new sculpt). What’s perplexing about this set is thinking about its MSRP. At a glance, $69.99 is a lot of money at once, but we’re getting three regularly-sized 6” figures and two “accessories” (the Porgs) that cost us $5 for two in 2018. So, perhaps a $5.00 markup isn’t the worst thing in the world. But when you distill everything as pure as possible, we’re paying $69.99 for the new Hondo Ohnaka figure, because let’s be honest, that’s the selling point of this figure. Amortized across the $69.99, this set is a value, but philosophically, we’re paying through the nose to get figures we already have for the figure we don’t have.
Hondo Ohnaka is simply stunning. Faithful to both the character in The Clone Wars television series as well as the animatronic puppet in Galaxy’s Edge, Hasbro beautifully designed the character and it’s quickly become one of our most favorite 6” figures of the line to date. We haven’t received too much love for The Clone Wars in the 6” line thus far. Clone Captain Rex (59) comes to mind instantly, but as of now the selection is slim pickings. (More are on the way, however.)Hondo Ohnaka comes with the standard articulation system of almost every other 6” figure before him, and that’s fine for what this scale provides. The legs look a little off to us (just a little bit), but the rest of the figure shines wonderfully, and we are certain you will thoroughly enjoy this figure as well. He comes with an overcoat shell and a blaster pistol, and that’s about the only accessories he comes with here. We were disappointed to see that his hat and goggles aren’t removable, but perhaps Hasbro took this approach with the intent to keep the aesthetics are as clean as possible. Still, we have to point out that the 3.75” TCW [R] Hondo Ohnaka (CW41) figure came with removable goggles, so we find this a disappointment. The rest of Hondo Ohnaka’s costume is stunning as well. Hasbro cleverly worked in detail that many will take for granted, and they didn’t hold back the full-color palette utilized to bring Hondo Ohnaka to life. If you look carefully at the texture and colors of his skin, as well as detail etched into his outfit, 6” collectors will find Hondo Ohnaka to be a work of art in their collections, rather than an action figure. We would have loved to see more accessories included with Hondo Ohanka, but if Hasbro re-releases him, maybe we’ll get Pilf Mukmuk.
Sadly, the rest of the figures in this set aren’t anything great. Hasbro took 2017’s TBS [P3] Rey (Jedi Training) (44) figure, gave her a “photorealistic” update, renamed her and slapped her inside of the package. The deco update looks decent, but we’re not sure if we’d say she looks beautiful like she does in the film. She does come with multiple accessories including Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber (which breaks down into hilt and blade), staff with strap, and a blaster which fits into her holster perfectly. You know her articulation system well, so there isn’t anything new to describe here. It’s a fine figure, enhanced and updated, and those reasons may be another prompting for collectors to pick up this set. We’ve always adored the new head sculpt on Chewbacca when he was released as 2015’s TBS [P3] Chewbacca (05) figure. This is the version of the figure added to the Smuggler’s Run set. Hasbro repainted Chewbacca. He appears to have the same color scheme as the figure based on The Force Awakens, but this time the splotches in his fur are either more accented, placed differently, or enhanced here and there. You can tell the two figures are different, however. He still comes with his bowcaster which breaks down into three parts as well as the removable bandolier. The last two additions in this set are the Porgs. One Porg is from the two-pack released in 2017. The other is an all-new sculpt. Hasbro would have been wiser if they added four Porgs to this set. That would have been cheap and would have made collectors happy. Aside from the MSRP (which is completely fair if you break it down), Smuggler’s Run contains a great cast of characters. Our take away is that Hasbro can make brilliant characters from The Clone Wars, and they must keep releasing them.
