Despite misleading rumors that Hasbro was reissuing the same old tired vehicle from yesteryear, Hasbro came through big time for collectors by producing an all-new Tatooine Skiff for The Vintage Collection, and the final results are nearly overwhelming. The all-new Tatooine Skiff might be the greatest accomplishment of Hasbro since the HasLab exclusive Jabba’s Sail Barge (The Khetanna) released. Wider, longer, more detailed and especially coming with the most beautifully enhanced deco, the Tatooine Skiff will not only meet but exceed all collectors’ expectations because it’s the closest thing we’ve seen reach perfection. And that’s quite an assessment because it feels like there has been more to complain about lately than praise. The Tatooine Skiff may not have iconic status, but it’s one of the more memorable vehicles from Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, and certainly one of the more interesting ones. No matter how much we appreciated the previous efforts by Hasbro in the past, if you’re honest, you can admit that we were long overdue to receive this stellar update. While spiritually, the Tatooine Skiff pays great homage to the classic Kenner vehicle. You can see and feel the esteem and admiration Hasbro has for the classic Kenner vehicle. And that comes through strongly with this all-new vehicle. Hasbro went above and beyond with the Tatooine Skiff, and collectors would be wise to take it all in and thoroughly enjoy it all.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that the Tatooine Skiff is larger and wider. It is significant, and new surface area that collectors can utilize to add all of the necessary figures to complete the unforgettable scenes in Return Of The Jedi. No more “domino effect” should transpire because your action figures won’t be packed like sardines when you attempt to create a diorama. You’ll notice some familiar details added to the new Tatooine Skiff, but you’ll also find a lot more added as well that we’ve never seen until this release. Perhaps the most notable feature is the display base which incorporates a portion of the Tatooine desert in addition to two “clear” support stands. The edges of the stands have rounded ball-sockets, and there are two places at the bottom of the Tatooine Skiff that accept them. This allows you to position the Tatooine Skiff in various leanings to create awesome angles while it flies, as well, as very scene-specific moments from Return Of The Jedi, like when the Tatooine Skiff began falling into the Sarlacc pit. With some clicking, you can tilt the Tatooine Skiff to change its position. It’s a simple but elegant feature. Hasbro also included a removable, interchangeable “battle-damaged” railing. This is a feature that we’re thoroughly enjoying and makes it scene-specific to the “prisoner” skiff during the Battle of Carkoon. All of these extras are thoroughly appreciated and adored.

Also new to this vehicle are removable floor panels. Perhaps they’re not the most-needed feature of this vehicle, but we sincerely appreciate the extra time and effort that made them possible. There are beautiful details etched into this vehicle’s cavity. Some of the original play features have been implemented into the new version too. The prisoner plank pulls out, and it's strong enough to accommodate an action figure on it. There are no action features this time added, but it works better as a functional part of the vehicle, instead of getting plagued with a crappy action feature. We’re thankful Hasbro went with the former here because a vehicle of this elegance doesn’t need play features. Features are fine and welcomed, but there is no need for screen-inaccurate play features. The piloting area is completely different than what was added to the original mold. Hasbro tooled a stunning console that is full of fine detail and gorgeous design. Hasbro left no rock unturned and did their best to mimic every last portion of this vehicle from the film for this toy. We cannot acknowledge that enough. They did a fabulous job here. Also carried forward from the original release are the articulated rudders. You have to assemble them briefly, but they’re easily attached and have a wide array of movement. Then there’s the paint job of the Tatooine Skiff. Without looking for flowery words to describe it, can you accept that it has the most beautiful deco of any other vehicle in the Star Wars line? Please purchase the Tatooine Skiff right away. There is no excuse to wait.
