Ten years after the fight to save Naboo from invasion, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi, thousands of solar systems threaten to secede from the Galactic Republic. A courageous Jedi Knight, his impulsive and headstrong apprentice, and a queen-turned-senator are drawn into the heart of the conflict... and the beginning of war.

The battle droid, the staple of the Trade Federation army, now has a modified, more threatening model. Their broad, looming frames make them less susceptible to damages incurred in battle, and their built-in firepower makes them a formidable threat to opposing armies. These menacing machines operate independently rather than in groups, thus proving to be a stronger, more efficient model of technological weaponry.

The Action Collection line has always been a heavy focus on the Star Wars toy line for Kenner/Hasbro for years now. With each new Star Wars film in the Prequel Trilogy, new characters are introduced that push the limits for Hasbro with what they want to bring forth in the line to continue it. Look at the Separatist Droid Army, for example. The released an excellent B1 Battle Droid, and with the introduction of Attack Of The Clones, the B2 Super Battle Droid makes an important appearance. As you might imagine, it’s another character Hasbro wanted to add to their 12 Inch Figures line. They did, and it turned out very well. Large, tall, imposing, threatening and bullish, the Super Battle Droid is without a doubt a highlight in the Star Wars “Saga” line and will be a favorite among all of the Action Collection figures produced to date. With an all-new sculpt and a stunning paint job, the Super Battle Droid proves to collectors what Hasbro is capable of in this scale.

The Super Battle Droid is an all-new figure. Hasbro had to work from the foundation up to produce this new character from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. Larger and taller than most other figures in the 12 Inch Figures line (and the film in general), the Super Battle Droid towers over the rest of the 12 Inch Figures in the line. Because it’s an all-new figure, Hasbro had to carefully plan where to add the most useable articulation possible for this bulky figure. The Super Battle Droid doesn’t come with much movement at all, but the points of articulation they added allow you to pose the Super Battle Droid in some pretty fantastic ways. Hasbro added eight points of articulation. These points include swivel shoulders, hinge-jointed elbows, swivel hips, and hinge-jointed knees. Hasbro didn’t add any multi-plane articulation to the Super Battle Droid, but believe it or not, the articulation they did add allows the Super Battle Droid to achieve some impressive poses.

As you probably expect, the Super Battle Droid doesn’t come with any accessories at all. It might have been a cool gesture to add an interchangeable cannon arm as the 3.75” version had or something else to give the 12 Inch Figure more value. But Hasbro felt that the Super Battle Droid as is was the best way to go here. Although lacking accessories, the Super Battle Droid does NOT lack with its paint job. We don’t feel that Hasbro matched the color of the character all that well when you compare them to what we see onscreen, but the deco looks fantastic. The Super Battle Droid is more gunmetal gray/silver. But to date, all of the toy versions of Super Battle Droids are blue. Blue isn’t an accurate color here. Despite the incorrect base color, Hasbro went above and beyond, adding scratches, dents, blast-damage, and red dirt from Geonosis on the figure’s frame. Hasbro did a gorgeous job with the deco here. You’re going to be impressed. The Super Battle Droid is excellent, and you should give it a chance.
