First Order Jet Trooper - TBS [P3] - Six Inch Figures (99)

Although first released as a “Carbonized” Walmart exclusive, it’s the only one of the four “Carbonized” figures that was released before the standard version. Part of the “second’ wave of The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures, collectors had time to appreciate the exclusive version of this character before receiving this general marketplace version. The standard version of the First Order Jet Trooper is a bit boring when compared to the “Carbonized” release. The sterling bright and white plastic they used to cast the figure is distracting, and not in a good way. It’s a much-too-clean figure that feels like it's missing the texture and color that the “Carbonized” version offers. We are a little disappointed with the figure if you want our honest opinion. It “lacks” in ways we find difficult to explain. Also, Hasbro omitted a critical paint detail on the “standard” release of this figure, and it affects the contour of the helmet greatly. You can see a side by side comparison of the error in our Photo Gallery. You know our opinion of this character. For us, it’s the nicest “First Order” trooper Hasbro added to The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line to date. Aside from the character’s helmet, we find better-functioning armored parts and new features we haven’t seen before on a member of the First Order until now. What’s more, everything new has been seamlessly applied to the 6” figure, and it has some of the smoothest articulation we’ve ever seen in a figure in this line. This is true for both versions of the figures.

The First Order Jet Trooper figure can easily pass for a character ripped right out of The Rise Of Skywalker. As we’ve mentioned in the review of the “Carbonized” figure, those enhancements to the armor give the First Order Jet Trooper (Carbonized) figure a more believable and presentable appearance. This lack of “Carbonized” detail on this release affects the authenticity of the character significantly. It feels like the standard release is missing a lot of detail. While we can’t complain about the cleanness of the armor, it does come off as a little too clean. And it lacks texture that the “Carbonized” version presented too. Even though this First Order Jet Trooper lacks detail, it still comes with some of the best parts of the “Carbonized” figure. In particular, collectors will love the articulation system on the First Order Jet Trooper, and what it offers to the character. We’ve mentioned the fluidity of the articulation. The joints articulate smoothly with relative ease, yet hold their positions as you attempt to pose the figure in almost any way you desire. This newfound fluidity not only includes the movement of the ball-socket head and hips, but it is also part of the ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. Display the figure in your collection, looking upward or downward. Or pose him flying in the air utilizing his jetpack. The options are limitless for this figure. Whatever you decide, you can rest assured that the First Order Jet Trooper is one of the greatest new troopers in the 6” line.

As we briefly mentioned previously, we love the design of the First Order Jet Trooper, save for its helmet. It looks nearly the same as the First Order Snowtrooper (12) or First Order Flametrooper (16). It makes sense from a certain point of view, but we were hoping something with a fresher take on another member of the First Order, because they updated the armor, so why not update the helmet a little bit more too? It’s a microscopic complaint compared to the rest of the figure, so it’s easy for us to let it go. But we would be honest without expressing this detail. The rest of the figure, however, is a brilliant and fresh design. The character wears special chest armor to accommodate its jetpack, and it’s one piece permanently adhered to the figure. We would have loved to have seen a removable option here, but that might have interfered with the character’s aesthetics by making him look too chunky if it didn’t lay against him close enough as required. So, we’ll take it as it is happily. Hasbro copied the details from the costume prop perfectly, and you’ll find red and blue symbols and unreadable characters and details on the front and back of the chest, while the rest of the figure only has black details. He comes with a double-barreled blaster, and it fits perfectly in his right hand. He also has a slot on his right thigh armor, but there is no plug on the gun to place it there. We imagine that Hasbro will eventually produce a Sith Jet Trooper at some point in the line utilizing this tooling and release it as a retailer exclusive. But in the meantime, be sure to enjoy this figure.
