We’re doing our best to relay to the collecting community why they should support the Galaxy Of Adventures line, even though the Hasbro Star Wars brand doesn’t need another new scale of action figures. With the “5POA” line officially dead, Hasbro decided to work their “kids” line into a new scale of 5” figures with an animated style. But most collectors always felt the line should have been animated from the start. Hasbro’s now backtracking to reinvent the line, and from where we sit, the line is turning out to be something that Star Wars collectors should easily describe as impressive, excellent, and brilliant, while still being a bit of a frustrating basic figure line. There is no argument the 5POA action figure line is the cheapest to produce. So throwing it all away like it never existed feels odd and slightly backward. Still, if the figures don’t sell and pile up to the point that they need to be mass-unloaded at discount chains like ROSS and Ollie’s, it makes sense that it’s time to stick a fork in it. That’s not doing anyone good. Despite the excellent line of figures, we have to admit it doesn’t make complete sense. The newly updated Galaxy Of Adventures line feels like a misfit, not appealing to those who collect the 6” line or the 3.75” line. Yet, the Galaxy Of Adventures line is bittersweet because the quality of the figures are exceeding expectations.

We can’t discount what Hasbro’s done with the revitalized 5” Galaxy Of Adventures line. We loved the figures in the first wave and the figures that make up the second wave look better than the first. The figures are incredible. Han Solo turned out excellently. Although you have to be a collector who appreciates animation-styled Star Wars interpretations to enjoy this format, no one can shortchange the efforts Hasbro put forth into this line. Whether critiquing the design (from the tooling to the details etched into the parts), the paint operations, or the inspiration of the animated style, the new Galaxy Of Adventures line is a success from where we stand. Sadly, the line isn’t moving quickly since its launch on Triple Force Friday. We’re still hoping for the best. The figures in this line are super-articulated, and they replicate similar hyper-articulated systems the 6” line receives, and now the 5” line is enjoying. Han Solo takes the detail of this line into new territory. The detail in the sculpt and the head sculpt in particular, are incredibly well done. Like Chewbacca, Han Solo serves as a testament to what can be accomplished in the line. With a fabulous sculpt that feels very “Disney Infinity,” Han Solo sports geometric shaping throughout his frame and captures the unique traits of the character in a brand new light.

Like most of the other figures in the line, Han Solo comes with an impressive 23 points of articulation. He doesn’t have seamless articulation, but the figure moves enough as needed for your display purposes. Han Solo comes with a body sculpt that is athletic and proportional to the on-screen actor. The figure moves freely and comes with an admirable amount of movement so you can achieve the poses you desire. Some of Han Solo’s articulation is wonderful, like the “rocker” ankles. They help you attain some incredibly dynamic poses. An action feature is truly the only setback here, but this is an addition to every character in this line. Han Solo’s greatest feature is the paint job. Hasbro kept the deco simple, but it looks amazing. Han Solo has a facial expression of consternation. He looks about as friendly, and he does irritated. He’s his own paradox. Han Solo comes with a removable vest, which is another great addition here. Han Solo looks good with or without the black vest. He also comes with his DL-44 blaster pistol. Hasbro designed his right hand to accommodate the blaster pistol, and, when not in use, it can be placed in the functioning holster on his belt. We’ll repeat it. Hasbro needs to think outside of the box with this line and take some risks. Start making aliens like Greedo and Momaw Nadon and Ponda Baba. These characters will save the line.
