Commander TX-20 - TCW [R] - Basic (CW46)

Commander TX-20 is a tactical droid who communicates with Separatist leader Wat Tambor via hologram. Capable of strategic calculations, TX-20 gives orders to battle droids when Republic forces attempt to free the planet Ryloth from Separatist control.

We admit it. Although we are not the biggest fans of The Clone Wars television show (we don’t hate it, it just isn’t as good as Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars in our opinion), there is no denying that there are some very cool new characters being added to the Star Wars universe database with each episode. Enter Commander TX-20. He is a Separatist droid leader working in cahoots with another fan favorite Separatist, Wat Tambor, to attempt to defeat the Republic forces defending Ryloth. Having a major role in the Season 1 episode, Innocents Of Ryloth, Commander TX-20’s striking appearance makes him very memorable and we are extremely thrilled to finally see him in action figure form. Looking quite a bit like a gourd on stilts, TX-20’s unique body and head make him seem as if he should be somewhere on the Star Tours ride and maybe not so much fighting the Republic. This isn’t a cut down on this figure, but rather an expression that TX-20 fits right in with the rest of the characters in the Star Wars Universe.

Perhaps the best part about the action figure of Commander TX-20 is his paint job. Hasbro utilized an alternating combination of navy blue with pale yellow and the results are quite brilliant. The character’s head looks like he is wearing a cap and Hasbro expertly recreated this detail with exacting standards. On top of an awesome paint job, Hasbro has also included “brush marks” in various places on the action figure to simulate light wear and tear that occurs merely existing in the Star Wars universe. Loaded with 12 points of articulation (he is only missing knee joints), TX-20 is capable of multiple poses which is necessary for him to hold the larger weapon included. The ankle joints are marvelous and have full range of motion and this is needed to attain proper balance when you pose him. And his arms and hands have been sculpted so well, you can have him hold the Wat Tambor hologram in his hands while he is looking at it. Hasbro really has done a phenomenal job with this action figure. It is obvious that Hasbro had collectors in mind when designing this action figure because it truly is a triumph in the line.

Commander TX-20 may just be the surprise figure in the 2009/2010 The Clone Wars line. There is no other way to put it other than we just love this action figure. While many droid figures have trouble standing on their own thanks to rubbery plastics used and spindly legs, TX-20 is one solid droid. And the fact that his wide squared chest sits atop two much thinner legs and stands without issue is a testament to how well he is made. The Innocents Of Ryloth episode was fertile ground for many characters. The choices were nearly limitless and Hasbro has taken cue from this and released a nice selection of unique action figures from this action-packed episode. We hope more are on the way, but if Hasbro needs more time to develop action figures to attain the same level of quality as Commander TX-20, then we will be as patient as possible. Because Commander TX-20 is a perfect example of what is exactly right with The Clone Wars basic figure line. He has it all. Complete with an accurate sculpt, a brilliant paint job and more articulation than he ever needed, Commander TX-20 is without question a necessity for your collection.
