A vapor farmer on Arvala-7, Kuiil came to seek peace in an out-of-the-way world, which is now being trespassed upon by criminals and mercenaries. He has worked a lifetime to be free of servitude, and offers valuable skills for those willing to meet his price.
Ugnaughts seem to be simple characters making their way across the universe. After their introduction into the Star Wars timeline in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, we soon saw them in other Star Wars sources, including the follow-up to Episode V, Return Of The Jedi. Now a main character from The Mandalorian is of the Ugnaught species, and he’s quickly become a favorite Star Wars character for all those who watch the series. Played by Nick Nolte, Kuiil plays an imperative role in protecting The Child, whose name is Grogu. Unfortunately, the character ends up dying protecting The Child, but his death wasn’t in vain. He promised to protect Grogu at any cost, even if that cost was his life. Despite Kuiil’s short tenure in The Mandalorian series, Hasbro developed a stunning The Black Series 6” figure of Kuiil, and it’s another one of their strongest figures in 2020. Kuill brings all the personality and detail on the on-screen character into action figure form, and we only hope that The Vintage Collection version of this character looks as good as this one. Kuiil is an impressive 6” action figure. And it comes with enough gear to satisfy those that love a wealthy amount of accessories with their figures.
As you know, Kuiil is shorter in stature than the average The Black Series 6” figures, but that’s because the character is an Ugnaught. And all Ugnaughts are shorter-statured creatures. Kuiil is an action figure loaded with detail and comes with an adequate amount of accessories. The head sculpt is beautiful. And with Photo Real added to bring the figure to life, collectors will find little to nothing wrong with the final figure. From close up or afar, Kuiil’s paint operations are excellent and reflect the screen-accuracy of all action figures from Hasbro should possess. More impressive, perhaps, is that Hasbro worked in the same amount of articulation as the rest of their standard 6” action figures. They didn’t make any accommodations or take any shortcuts because of this action figure’s smaller size. Although Hasbro included the same type of articulation system in Kuiil as they do with taller action figures, some movement is inhibited thanks to the design of the parts that articulate. Kuiil’s legs are thicker, for example, and prevent the same range of motion of an action figure with more slender legs. Despite this, we don’t feel it takes too much away from Kuiil. It’s a gorgeous action figure, and we’re thrilled with how it turned out.
Kuiil comes with a decent amount of accessories, making up for the standard MSRP it commands. The first is a scarf/backpack combination piece. It’s easily removable. When you remove Kuill’s portrait, you can slide it off to create a different character configuration. The scarf and backpack are connected and not detachable, but the piece balances perfectly across the figure’s torso, and Hasbro designed it well to fit like a glove. Kuill’s skull cap and goggles set is also removable. Underneath is nothing but a bald head. But once removed, it gives Kuiil a wholly different and unique appearance. Kuiil also comes with a blaster rifle. It’s a bit of a chore to wiggle into the action figure’s hands, but with a little patience, you can make it work. Interestingly, Hasbro gave the blaster rifle a molded strap. The strap is cast in a rubbery material, and it’s removable. It slides off of the blaster rifle relatively easily. We’re surprised they designed a separate part for Kuiil’s weapon. It’s charming to see another Ugnaught character added to the Star Wars action figure line, but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit that there are many other Ugnaughts we’d like to see added into the Hasbro Star Wars line from The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi as well. And for The Vintage Collection, Hasbro needs to get busy on them all. Either way, Kuill is a highlight in The Black Series [Phase IV] line, and its articulation and accessories warrant a $19.99 MSRP, even though the figure is shorter than most others.
