The Empire is in disarray. The onc pristine and uniform ranks of Stormtroopers that fought for the Empire now resemble a ragtag army of mercenaries for lawless gangsters.
Hasbro is quick to reuse existing tooling to produce new characters. Only separated by months, Hasbro took 2020’s TBS [P4] Imperial Stormtrooper (TM02) and repainted it to create the Remnant Stormtrooper (TM09) figure. In all honesty, the 6” Remnant Stormtrooper suffers from the same issues as The Vintage Collection Remnant Stormtrooper (VC165) figure. Every unit produced is a clone of the other. Hasbro used to give army-building action figures different paint operations so that they’d look unique to one another, but that’s not their current practice. So, if you have one of The Black Series 6” Remnant Stormtrooper, you have them all. What a shame this is! Perhaps it’s not practical to army-build them anyhow. AT $20 a pop, the cost rises exponentially. How much money can one collector spend on one character? However, if you look at the Remnant Stormtrooper as a single release, it’s pretty nice-looking. The new Imperial Stormtrooper tooling is excellent and a far cry from the original 6” Stormtrooper released years ago. The articulation is smooth as butter, and the character’s most important details, like the helmet and the armor pieces, are screen-accurate and represent the on-screen character beautifully.
Hasbro overstayed the welcome of 2013’s TBS [P1] Stormtrooper (#09) tooling for much too long. Although they created some gorgeous new figures utilizing this figure’s tooling, it’s time to retire the tooling. Collectors wanted a definitive version of the Imperial Stormtrooper in the 6” line incorporating the new “butterfly” shoulder enhancements and ball-jointed articulation that allowed for a broader range of movement. And we got that thanks to the all-new Imperial Stormtrooper (TM02) figure. Now it’s time to start reusing this tooling to produce new characters like the Remnant Stormtrooper (TM09) figure. Hasbro worked in an incredible 30 points of articulation in the Remnant Stormtrooper 6” figure. The portrait has a movement that’s flowing, thanks to its double joint. Not only does it come with a ball-socket head, but it also has a reversed ball-socket neck. The movement’s fluidity is fantastic, and you can tilt the head at every angle possible, thanks to this ingenious design. The design of the helmet is equally impressive. Hasbro has come far with their tooling technology. And the Remnant Stormtrooper shows collectors how precise Hasbro is when they capture every nuance and detail on the on-screen costume and apply it to a 6” action figure.
Although not new for the Remnant Stormtroopers, the wonderfully installed “butterfly” joints are once again employed for this character. They give a full lateral movement of the shoulders. Hasbro combined this enhancement with updated ball-jointed shoulder joints, and the range of motion the figure achieves from these points is astounding. The enhanced ball-jointed articulation in the shoulders is also incredible updates here. The angles you can achieve in the elbows is unreal. Hasbro hasn’t ever had the success they do here with elbows. And we hope they implement this in all new army building figures or, minimally, the armored characters. The knees also have enhanced movement and move like they never could previously. You’re going to love what this figure offers. Where the Remnant Stormtrooper falls short is with the accessories. Hasbro must include more accessories than one with all The Black Series 6” figures. Getting one accessory is not a value. And characters like the Remnant Stormtroopers utilize multiple weapons. Aside from the uniform battle-damage and dirt deco, there isn’t much else to complain about here. Strangely, the Remnant Stormtrooper is a TARGET Exclusive, and this detail is something we’ll never understand. It should be a widespread release.
