The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.
Finally! It took the Disney Star Wars Toybox line way too long to get the classic Original Trilogy Stormtrooper into the lineup. When the line began, they focused on characters from the Sequel Trilogy, including those from the First Order. Disney didn’t realize that the people collecting this line typically don’t give a rat’s behind about the Sequel Trilogy and are only interested in the George Lucas era of Star Wars characters. The Stormtrooper doesn’t bring anything new to the line necessarily, but it’s terrific to see that old “vintage” bucket on top of the figure’s head, as well as the old design of the armor. Most of the figures in the Star Wars Toybox line have similar to identical articulation. The same is true for the Stormtrooper. Released on the same day as the revitalized Darth Vader (19) figure, we now have a stunning pairing of two Galactic Empire members, and we think they are fantastic additions to the line. Let’s take a closer look.
The Star Wars Toybox line’s possibilities are endless, but if Disney sticks to what collectors are obsessed with, that is, Original trilogy characters, they’re guaranteeing success for their bottom line. Disney can represent the other characters by peppering them into the assortment here and there. The Stormtrooper is a simple action figure. It’s mostly white with black highlights in the armor, so there isn’t too much to get excited about because we have seen this done a bazillion times before in many different scales. The Stormtrooper comes with an impressive 27 points of articulation, including a ball-jointed head and ball-jointed hips. But the premium articulation doesn’t end there. The shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles all have this luxurious articulation as well. Many collectors noted that “rocker” ankles would have made a significant difference on these figures. We agree with those assessments too. It’s a bit difficult to have both feet flat on the ground with the standard ball-jointed articulation given to the ankles.
As we’ve mentioned, the deco on the Stormtrooper is simple but done well. There aren’t any instances of sloppy paint applications anywhere on the figure. You’ll be thrilled with how this figure turned out. The white armor is a bit dull but still white. Disney implemented a shiny coat to the armor, but it could be shinier. The Star Wars Toybox figures come lightly accessorized, and this detail applies to the Stormtrooper. It comes with an E-11 blaster. Disney tooled it beautifully, but the gun fits a little bit too loosely in the right hand. They designed the left hand to support it when holding it with two hands. Overall, there is more here to enjoy than pick apart. Fans of Disney Infinity and any animated stylization of Star Wars characters will find favor with the Star Wars Toybox line. Again, we would encourage Disney to continue releasing one Original Trilogy character after another. These types of characters will sell because the original Star Wars collectors adore anything from that era.
