Moff Gideon - TBS [P4] - Six Inch Figures (TM08)

Hasbro did fantastic jobs on both The Vintage Collection and The Black Series [Phase IV] interpretation of Moff Gideon. A phenomenon exists that some characters, by the nature of their likenesses, are easier to capture in action figure form than others. No one can explain this, but the trend exists. For example, Obi-Wan Kenobi typically looks excellent in whatever line the character is part of, and now it appears that Imperial Moff Gideon follows suit. The Vintage Collection Moff Gideon (VC180) figure received a warm reception with 3.75” super-articulated collectors, and now 6” collectors get treated as well with their version. Moff Gideon is a mixture of Darth Vader, a TIE fighter pilot, and an Imperial Officer. They cobbled together this character’s outfit beautifully, and Hasbro translated all of the details well into toy form. In short, Moff Gideon is another fantastic release in The Black Series [Phase IV] lineup and destined to be one of Hasbro’s best efforts in the line. It’s quite astounding how they keep getting better and better when the figure always looks terrific.

You know how we feel about Giancarlo Esposito. Always playing a significant villain, the actor is the perfect choice for Moff Gideon. The relatively flawless actor portrays a wide range of characters on the big and small screen, and Star Wars fans can count themselves fortunate that he’s part of The Mandalorian on Disney+. The character of Moff Gideon is intriguing. He is a human male who served in the Imperial Security Bureau quickly rose to power after the Galactic Empire fell. Taking on ancient Mandalorian weaponry such as the Darksaber, he became a Moff and led the remnant Galactic Empire. He plays a vital role in The Mandalorian. He is searching for The Child’s whereabouts and eventually becomes successful in The Child’s capture by Imperial Dark Troopers. Soon after, Moff Gideon was defeated and detained, and Din Djarin took over ownership of the Darksaber weapon. Moff Gideon on The Mandalorian’s Darth Vader. Moff Gideon completes an immediate main cast of characters from The Mandalorian in The Black Series [Phase IV] collection.

Hasbro accessorized Moff Gideon nicely. The figure comes with a molded and removable cape. The outer portion of the cape is black, while the lining is deep blood red. There is a small hole in the back of the Moff Gideon action figure and a plug on the cape’s end. The Vintage Collection version is the same format. The cape stays in place nicely, whether you pose the figure statically or have it some action pose. Hasbro also tooled a functioning holster on the right side of Moff Gideon’s belt. The figure comes with a small blaster pistol, and it stays in place firmly when not in use. Moff Gideon’s right hand also accommodates the blaster pistol perfectly. Finally, the figure also comes with a darksaber sword. It’s delicately and beautifully designed with a transparent edging, giving it a glowing effect. Still, like the 3.75” version, Hasbro cast it in a plastic that’s too pliable for our tastes. Regardless, Moff Gideon holds it with both hands and looks phenomenal wielding it. This latest Star Wars villain is quite popular already, and with action figure art like this, why not?
