Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order lets players evade the Empire's forces as Cal Kestis, a Padawan fugitive on a quest to complete his training and rebuild the fallen Jedi Order.
It seems too soon for a Gaming Greats or a Deluxe version of Cal Kestis. Hasbro made this character a focus in their release schedule for The Black Series [Phase IV] line, but you'll find that this figure is a lot of smoke and mirrors. It looks almost entirely new, but it's the same base tooling as 2019's TBS [P3] Cal Kestis (93) figure, which makes us question why we're paying $29.99 again with only a few extra accessories added into the packaging this time. We don't know much about the video game, but apparently, Cal Kestis changes outfits just like any other Star Wars character. But this time, we don't know if we're looking at Little Red Riding Hood or some skinny white-boy version of Willrow Hood. Who knows? However, this version of Cal Kestis is charming and comes with a decent amount of accessories. There are almost enough accessories here that we may be inclined to admit that they make up for the unacceptable $29.99 MSRP. As part of the Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order video game Star Wars Entertainment, Cal Kestis plays a significant role in restoring the Jedi Order. The character succeeds through many trials and adventures when you play the character in the game.
Cal Kestis is a "Starkiller-ish" type of lead character. You get two sidekicks with this release, however. You get a maroon BD-1 droid and a bogling, which is one of the cutest animals we've seen in the Star Wars universe in quite some time. The Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order video game was a hit, but we're not getting too many characters from the game in toy form. Cal Kestis is another example of an action figure we'd give a perfect score. Still, once again, Hasbro incorporated lanky legs that are a tad too spindly and way too long for the character's proportions. Thankfully, the new poncho hides most of this awkwardness. Aside from that, the figure is done well, and the accessories interact well with it. Cal Kestis is a human male Jedi Padawan. We also know he's physically fit because of the jobs he's had during his lifetime. And we know he has a great work ethic and possesses strength in the form of humility. We don't know much about his Force sensitivity, aside from the fact that he possesses it. Cal Kestis has Dash Rendar and Cade Skywalker elements throughout, yet is still fresh and unique to the Star Wars saga. Hasbro reused the previously developed body for Cal Kestis, repainted it, and included new things like outerwear and accessories to make it feel different.
The figure is quite orange, and it's a bit overwhelming, But if such things don't bother you, there isn't much to concern yourself with here. The figure has a stunning articulation system, complete with butterfly shoulder joints so that you can do a great deal with this figure. You're going to love it. Hasbro also developed a stunning head sculpt, complete with Photo Real deco and tooling that will impress the pickiest of collectors. They utilized the same portrait here, and the two figures look identical to each other. Cal Kestis received a beautiful paint job, and there are many extra details throughout his costume to appreciate as well. Cal Kestis comes with a lightsaber that breaks down into hilt and blade and a double-bladed lightsaber that breaks down into three parts. Cal Kestis wields them fluidly, with a single hand or with both hands. We love the inclusion of the BD-1 figure here again, and we're thankful that Hasbro gave it a different color. This time it is maroon. Always riding on Cal's shoulder's we hope BD-1 becomes a character that everyone seems to enjoy. BD-1 has a significant amount of articulation for a tiny droid. You'll find it comes with a swivel head, two swivel shoulders and "knees," and a couple of other points, and it looks like a miniature AT-ST, for lack of a better description. You also get a hood "up" and hood "down," which also gives this action figure character.
