Boba Fett (Tatooine) - TVC - Deluxe

No matter your feelings on Disney Star Wars, one thing we can all take away from the “new” Star Wars is that some of our favorite classic characters are becoming candidates in The Vintage Collection line. Although a character like Boba Fett looks quite different now than how he appeared in the Original Trilogy, Hasbro sees it as a viable candidate that they add to their plans for the Hasbro Star Wars line. We just received a stunning take of Boba Fett from Return Of The Jedi in 2021’s TVC Boba Fett (VC186) figure, which was likely made possible by the inclusion of the character in both The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett Disney+ series. While most longtime collectors look forward to the Original Trilogy iterations of this beloved bounty hunter, there is no denying some excitement bubbling under the surface for new action figures that pay homage to this classic Star Wars villain. Boba Fett. Sure, Temura Morrison is a little older and fuller, but it’s pretty interesting to see the same character who played Boba Fett’s father play the son in this new show. Most importantly, Hasbro developed an excellent action figure of this latest incarnation of Boba Fett and released it as a Deluxe figure. We’ll fully express our chagrin about that shortly. We want to start by saying that most collectors will adore this figure. Hasbro made it well, and its articulation is appropriate.

Boba Fett (Tatooine) is an all-new figure. And Hasbro did a beautiful job designing this action figure. A couple of things bother us about this release, but overall, most collectors should find this a more-than-satisfactory release. We’ve all heard the insult hurled at the Disney Star Wars interpretation of Boba Fett. Name-calling, including “Boba Fatt” and “Uncle Fettster,” are the most common, but many people have been ruthless to this veteran actor, primarily in how they refer to him. The figure is a faithful replication of the on-screen character. Based on the character’s appearance on Tatooine, Boba Fett (Tatooine) comes with a decent amount of accessories, but they don’t cover the exorbitant $26.99 MSRP. This figure should cost anywhere from $12.99 to $13.99 at the most, and why Hasbro think they can continue to overcharge the collecting community by smoke and mirrors is getting tiring as it is making us angry. The portrait of Boba Fett (Tatooine) is stunning. It looks like the actor very much. And Hasbro added the facial injuries the character sustained while in the belly of the Sarlacc pit via Photo Real technology. The final figure is gorgeous. Hasbro also used bright yellows, reds, and greens to color Boba Fett’s costume. And the removable helmet fits like a glove on the figure’s portrait.

Additionally, Hasbro included both a blaster pistol and a blaster rifle. There is a place in the functioning holster to store the blaster pistol, but Boba Fett will have to hold the blaster rifle at all times to complete the figure. The removable helmet looks fantastic, but it still doesn’t have an articulated rangefinder which is a shame. The removable jetpack is a complex accessory. It comes with a removable rocket, but it also serves as a flame attachment when plugged into the bottom of the jetpack upside down. Hasbro also added two larger flame attachments connecting the exhaust ports hanging down at the jetpack’s bottom. These are nice accessories to have, but they’re more novelty than necessary. And they shouldn’t count as pieces to jack up the price, either. Lastly, Hasbro included two Imperial Stormtrooper (VC140) portraits. They didn’t take the time to hollow them out, so you will see barbell head joints underneath. And we think the paint operations on them are sloppy. Some collectors may be happy about this because they can attach the battle-damaged helmets to existing figures, but for us, it shows how lazy Hasbro is regarding an action figure’s design. These are merely props in whatever scene you want to create for Boba Fett (Tatooine). Lastly, the $26.99 price is egregious. Hasbro is killing the line, and they have no idea that’s what they’re doing.
