Is it just us, or does the Retro Collection Grand Inquisitor action figure immediately remind you of Pinhead from Hellraiser? These Utapaun/Pau’an species are as equally eerie as they are interesting and make perfect candidates for other character developments in various Star Wars sources. Many fans were happy to see a Pau’an in Star Wars Rebels and then more satisfied to see the character resurrected in a live-action Star Wars series, most notably Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course, we’re frustrated that Hasbro didn’t produce the Grand Inquisitor for The Vintage Collection line first. Yes, we get it. It will likely come at a later date. But as a functional commemorative line, such as the Retro Collection, it makes more sense to release them in the simplified 5POA line AFTER they had their day in the sun as a 3.75-inch super-articulated action figure. Hasbro was as faithful as possible to the on-screen character. With limitations in detail and articulation, there isn’t too much Hasbro can bring to this line of figures, but they tried, and their efforts are admirable. Contrary to what they did for the Retro Collection Darth Vader (The Dark Times) figure, Hasbro opted to imitate the Kenner line’s most straightforward solution by working in a vinyl cape on this figure. Coincidentally, Reva (Third Sister) ALSO comes with a vinyl cape. Some collectors have defended Hasbro’s use of soft goods in this line, citing a post-Return Of The Jedi approach with accessories. That’s a fair point, but why the inconsistency for the other character in the SAME WAVE? Regardless, the Grand Inquisitor will BARELY hold us over until they produce a collector-friendly version, but who knows how long that will be waiting. We hope they make it a priority, but we also hope they start adding the OT characters back into the mix.
