Hunter - TVC - Basic (VC268)

So, to all of you Disney Star Wars freaks out there, are you finally happy to have your Disney Star Wars version of Rambo? We get that Hasbro must represent the Star Wars saga across the board in their toy line, but The Bad Batch didn’t go over well and certainly didn’t interest the bulk of those collecting The Vintage Collection action figure line. Regardless, The Bad Batch characters date back to before the Disney disaster. But all jibing aside, there is no doubt that Hasbro produced a phenomenal action figure in a 3.75-inch super-articulated scale for this character. And we’d go so far as to say that it might rival The Black Series 6-inch Hunter (TBB01) figure in both approach and final product. Hunter is an excellent action figure. Hasbro perfectly captured the animated features and likeness of the character from The Bad Batch and translated it well into action figure form. They packed excessive detail into this tiny action figure, and we can’t complain about anything they’ve done here. Taking a page out of the notebook when they designed the Clone Trooper (Phase II Armor) action figure, Hunter comes with the updated ball-jointed hips and “rocker” ankles that give action figures like this premium and fluid movement. Hunter may not be a character at the top of your wish list, but it’s undoubtedly an accomplishment in the line. And was Hasbro does something well, we must point it out, even if there seems to be more negative than positive these days.

Hunter is an all-new action figure in The Vintage Collection with 28 points of articulation across 17 areas. The articulation system works brilliantly, and we had no issues achieving a variety of poses, from action-oriented ones to more static ones. Hunter’s proportions are excellent, and the character looks a tad taller than the standard human male in the Star Wars universe. The armor is a medium gray and accented with darker gray parts throughout it. Then you’ll find various maroon lines and patches in the armored parts too. Hasbro recreated the skull insignia marvelously, and although difficult to tell, they also added it to the headband. The other paint operations throughout this figure, like the facial deco and the patterns on the helmet, are beautifully applied. You’re going to love how this action figure turned out. Characters from The Bad Batch series all have unique armor, so Hasbro had to step up to the plate and design a figure that matches what we see in the series. They did a fantastic job in this regard. The shoulder and knee plates are wider and differently shaped, and the torso armor has a unique design and needs to accommodate a removable backpack accessory. Hunter also has a sheath installed on the left arm, which also needed to be considered. From what we can tell, Hasbro didn’t miss a beat here. We believe that collectors will find favor with this figure.

For accessories, we briefly mentioned the removable helmet. Hasbro did an excellent job tooling this accessory. It doesn’t look too large and fits nicely around this figure’s unique head sculpt. And we’d also like to point out that it is distinct in shape, so they needed to tool this as a new piece for screen accuracy. Although the sheath isn’t removable from the figure’s left arm, the knife is, and it’s a neat little accessory that fits well into the figure’s hands. The blocky backpack is also removable. Unfortunately, Hasbro made the attachment plug thick, making it difficult for the figure to hold it easily. You also get a blaster rifle similar to the weaponry used by the Republic Commandos in the video game and a basic DC-17 blaster pistol for smaller jobs. Hunter feels like a novel addition to The Vintage Collection line. Will Hasbro produce the entire Bad Batch in this scale to appease those that want them? Or is Hunter merely a bone they’re throwing at the fans to shut them up for a while? Only time will tell, but it appears that Hasbro is getting the message loudly and clearly that collectors of this line demand that Hasbro spread the wealth into this scale a little more. No one can deny what Hasbro accomplished with Hunter. We couldn’t care less about the character, but it’s a fine action figure and a lovely addition to The Vintage Collection. We can deal with that if we see more Original Trilogy characters added alongside the Disney Star Wars stuff.
