Kit Fisto - TCW [SOTDS] - Basic (CW23)

Kit Fisto endures a grueling battle in the lair of General Grievous. The Jedi and his former padawan Nahdar Vebb enter the cyborg general's lair while on the trail of an escaped prisoner. Fisto battles Grievous in a fierce duel and emerges alive from the lair, taking Vebb's lightsaber from the general before he escapes.

We venture to guess that we will never be able to give an unbiased review on any Kit Fisto action figure, but we certainly will try. 2009's TCW [F/S1] Kit Fisto (No. 27) figure was the very last one released in the first [blue] phase of The Clone Wars line. He was eagerly anticipated by most collectors and while he was excellent in many ways, he suffered from a few issues that really made us hope that a revision would be somewhere on the horizon. Fast forward a little less than a year and a half and we now have a significant upgrade to the character and aside from not having ball-jointed hips, the figure is practically flawless. (But his legs still have an interesting feature that almost makes not having ball-joints alright. We will get to this in a moment.) Hasbro took the best parts of the 2009 figure and then took them toe extreme levels to make one of the best Kit Fisto action figures money can buy…. and then some. Complete with a new lower body and portrait (and a few other bells and whistles), the 2010 version of The Clone Wars Kit Fisto makes the 2009 figure obsolete. It’s simply astounding how much more improved this Kit Fisto is to the older version. We’re only talking slightly over a year apart released from each other yet they are like night and day. Hasbro not only make major improvements to the body of the figure, but the paint applications are amazingly updated and makes it not only the best version of Kit Fisto, but one of the finest releases in The Clone Wars line thus far. Based on his appearance in the Lair Of Grievous episode from the Season 1, it may have been wise for Hasbro to hold off on him for an extra year to give us a figure of this quality the first time around. Then again, maybe the way in which figure are released happens that way for a reason.

Kit Fisto utilizes the body and arms from the 2009 figure. New legs, a new head and a new lower body have all been tooled flawlessly and perfectly incorporate themselves into the existing parts. The mesh of all the pieces will leave the collector thoroughly impressed as there are no signs of incongruence with the parts blending well from two different collections. If you recall, the first Kit Fisto has legs of two different lengths that gave him an awkward lean (some samples were more dramatic than others). The new and improved Kit Fisto is symmetric and has a great posture and is capable of more poses that you might expect since he only has swivel hips. Whether this was intentional or not, Hasbro has included some “give” with his legs that allow you to pose them out (away left and right) from the body. This is what some of you may simply call “loose joints” but they really aren’t. Miraculously they aren’t as loose as you might think and yet can maintain the poses you place them. This is certainly favorable in the absence of ball-jointed hips and we think for Kit Fisto, his legs work better than ball-jointed hips. This is something you’re going to have to play with yourself to appreciate and fully understand. But it’s out there for you to make a mental note of it now. So, Kit Fisto has a lot of flexibility and this is something this Star Wars character absolutely needs. He comes with his own green lightsaber as well as a second blue lightsaber, perhaps Nahdar Vebb’s? His cumbersome jetpack is nowhere to be found thank goodness and silly action features have been abandoned for superb articulation. Hasbro has really impressed us with this action figure for sure.

Kit Fisto has a stunning paint job. Hasbro has managed to perfect Kit Fist’s skin color. It is cast in a lighter green color and the wash on the skin is subtle and meaningful. The eye color has also been changed to a very dark brown instead of black as the 2009 figure had. His brow doesn’t seem as angry and he is cracking a grimace as if he just knocked a battle droid to the ground like he did in Episode II. His trademark Nautolan head-tresses are not as flyaway as they were on the first figure either. And while we love the calmer and more relaxed appearance of them, we are more excited by the precise paint job Hasbro has given them. The dark green spots are much more pronounced and sharper and the rings (or ties) that bind them together have been painted exceptionally well. The tips are dark as they should be and they hang right at belt level. Absolutely one of the best paint jobs we have seen in The Clone Wars line so far, Kit Fisto should become one of the premier figures in the line. We hope that the other yet-to-be-made Jedi get this royal treatment. We honestly cannot say enough positive things about the stunningly new and improved Kit Fisto. This isn’t a simple upgrade to the original figure. Kit has been completely reinvented and is proof that Hasbro has a new level of what they consider acceptable. We have been crying for years for beautiful paint jobs and it appears they are finally listening. Awesome articulation is extremely important, but so is how the action figures are decorated. Kit Fisto passes every angle of scrutiny we gave him and we believe we are inspired to pick up and extra one for our collections because he is that good. This is one figure you definitely do not want to miss so do anything you can to ensure he finds a spot in your collection.
