Is this the way that Hasbro gets us an all-new Massiff action figure after more than 20 years? We're still determining how many within the collecting community have been waiting for Hasbro to produce an all-new Massiff, but we have it thanks to the dreadful The Book Of Boba Fett Disney+ series. And even if you're excited to get a new Massiff, you're probably not going to be happy with the method of how we're getting it. Hasbro is making all of us repurchase the Tusken Warrior figure. What makes this unfortunate is that the character isn't an army builder. It's a single incumbent position; we only need one in our collection. Now, we have unnecessary redundancy. There are multiple Tusken Warrior characters from The Book Of Boba Fett, so why couldn't Hasbro have changed things up here for collectors? There was no reason to release this action figure single-carded and identically as a deluxe figure. They excel at pissing off their dwindling collector base. Moving along, collectors are paying $27.99 for the Massiff figure. And that's another reason to stay mad at Hasbro.
The Mandalorian showed us that there are various tribes of the Tusken Raiders, and not all of them are standard for male and female roles. The Book Of Boba Fett introduces us to a more progressive Tusken Raider. A character referred to as an "unknown" Tusken Warrior is female and has a notable role in the Disney+ series. But what did that mean for Hasbro if they needed to produce a female Tusken Warrior that favors a more traditional male than a conventional female? They've dug deeply into their parts catalog and dusted off 2015's TBS [P3] Rey (Jakku) figure, a former Walmart exclusive. They've used the torso, cod section, arms, and upper legs of that figure while the rest of it is all-new. And, of course, they've repainted it in dark colors to be screen-accurate while attempting to hide the reuse of parts. Thanks to its older features, the Tusken Warrior is a little more than an average action figure that feels aged. In particular, the reused arms from a near-decade-old Rey figure give the Tusken Warrior an odd, spindly, and skinny appearance. And the way the arms stick out from the figure's sides is garish.
The Tusken Warrior also lacks accessories. We get a modernized gaderffi stick and a removable shoulder armor piece. And that's it. With so much saved on tooling the first time, keeping everything the same the second time seems especially painful. Why couldn't they have thrown a couple of other accessories here to make it feel like there's some value here, or even a new paint job? And unless Hasbro continues to produce other members of this Tusken clan, there may have been little reason for Hasbro to release this basic figure into the lineup. Let's face it. So, what's left in this "deluxe" set to make it feel like you haven't wasted $27.99? Well, absolutely nothing. The Massiff, however, is a beautiful update to 2002's SW [S - P1] Massiff ('02 #34) action figure. Hasbro carried forward the "moving jaw" gimmick, but they also incorporated an articulated neck and worked in ball joints into all four legs (at the 'shoulder' and 'hip" areas of the beast). Overall, Hasbro gave Target a bridge to sell here. And if this sells poorly, there are only so many times Hasbro can cry wolf until their retail partners cut their ties with them and this dying brand.
