So, let's get something straight. Hasbro implemented an archaic technology from 2009 into the 2023 The Black Series [Return Of The Jedi 40] line. Are collectors seemingly fine with their approach here? The Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) figure has a few things working against it. Some issues deal with the figure, while others deal with the packaging. Why are they assessing this figure as Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight)? It's like they're reliving the mistakes they made in The Vintage Collection line into this line. This release is Luke Skywalker (Endor Capture) or Luke Skywalker (Death Star II), and they should have updated the character photo and nameplate to reflect this distinct difference. We all lived through this in 2010 with the Luke Skywalker (Endor [Endor Capture/Jedi Knight) (VC23) release. First, the figure's name and character photo needed to be corrected. Then, they made a running change to fix all the mistakes. So why couldn't Hasbro be proactive here? History always repeats itself.

Another thing we don't like about the Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) figure is the removable chest section. Hasbro first implemented this silly technology with 2009's LC Luke Skywalker (BD16) figure. It makes Luke Skywalker feel a bit robotic, and we would have rather seen Hasbro produce two different versions: one with an old black tunic, the other with the flap pulled down, revealing the white layer underneath it. We're more surprised that Hasbro would revert its technology by over a decade. The interchangeable panels failed in 2009; they most certainly fail now. But, you may have different opinions about this than us. Aside from the interchangeable chest part, Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) is a decent action figure. We received our total share of Luke Skywalker action figures from Hasbro already, but they must believe that there is a need to keep designing new and retooled versions to appeal to the masses. We're happy to see the Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) figure celebrated in the line in this manner, but Hasbro goofed on the packaging, and that gets labeled as a setback for us.

Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) comes with a modest number of accessories. There are two removable chest panels: the solid black and the folded-down white flapped version. Then, they added a hilt and a detachable green lightsaber blade. And why couldn't they have included other accessories like a soft-goods outer tunic and cape? We must understand why Hasbro takes so many shortcuts on these expensive action figures. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight) has a good articulation system. You can achieve impressive poses with this action figure while it holds the hilt or fully assembled lightsaber. But that only goes so far, and you'll soon discover that this action figure is much too simple for the price it commands. We would have felt better if Hasbro categorized this version of Luke Skywalker differently. No matter how you distill it, this isn't the Jedi Knight version of Luke Skywalker, and that was the most notable misstep with this release. We hope they're more careful with these celebratory action figures.
