For years, JTA always recommended Hasbro make a The Vintage Collection counterpart to every all-new 6-inch figure they bring into the line. Hasbro uses digital files to create action figures these days, and it’s pretty simple to translate those digital files into 3-D plans and eventually execute them into production. They didn’t listen for a very long time. But as of later, it seems to be a little more consistent. And sometimes, the 3.75-inch versions come out before the 6-inch ones. Princess Leia Organa has been attempted in The Black Series line multiple times so far. The frequency of additions to the line far outpaces the 3.75-inch releases. However, Princess Leia Organa fell short in the likeness department each time. After years and years of disappointing action figures, we feel that Hasbro may have reached its peak with this character. The Black Series [Phase IV] Princess Leia Organa (ANH08) figure is this character’s best action figure release. We imagine one more stab at the portrait will perfect what Hasbro did here; it might not be for quite a while. Carrie Fisher had a youthful, round face in Star Wars. But the roundness of her face is something Hasbro experiences difficulty translating into plastic. This version is notably improved, but from certain angles, you will wonder what Hasbro was thinking after approving this final version. Then again, there are angles where it looks just like Carrie Fisher. This release isn’t perfect, but we like its interchangeability and overall appearance. The figure has two hood pieces: collapsed, hanging, and worn. They look excellent, and swapping out the pieces as needed is easy. We also get an E-11 blaster and a sporting blaster pistol. They interact with Princess Leia Organa beautifully. We strongly feel that Princess Leia Organa is a marked improvement in The Black Series line. But we are also sure that collectors will be unhappy with this delivery. Admittedly, Princess Leia Organa is a complicated character to get right as an action figure.
