As awesome as the Bounty Hunters From Hostage Crisis Animated Series Episode was, the Clone Troopers From The Hidden Enemy Animated Series Episode just doesn’t deliver in the same way. Perhaps we're numb with clone trooper bodied action figures with small variances in their portraits to make them look unique from each other. Or maybe that it's we can no longer bear Captain Rex getting packed in as one of the figures in a multipack no more. But whatever it is, this TARGET exclusive just doesn't have the same wow factor or luster. This doesn’t mean that is terrible. It's actually quite good, but we are honestly getting a little bit too bored with constantly getting more and more "white" clone troopers. And perhaps we're being unfair because in general, Hasbro has taken the effort to not only change up the portraits of clone troopers, but they have introduced new bodies throughout the line for us to help keep these differences rolling. (But not to confuse you, all the clone troopers in this set utilize the same mold. We'll get to this in a minute.) The included figures are well made, but they may be slightly boring (in a good way if that makes sense). The greta news is that you can tell them apart, something that always isn't possible with fully armored clones wearing their buckets.
The great news about this set is that Hasbro has taken the original collector favorite 2008 TCW Captain Rex (No. 4) figure and repainted it for another Captain Rex release. But then they used 2009's TCW Clone Trooper Echo (CW17) to make the three other clone troopers in this set and have given each included clone trooper a (slightly) revised head sculpt. Since Clone Trooper Echo is based on the 2008 TCW Clone Trooper (No. 5) figure, it's a great base sculpt to derivate from and make brand new clones. You already know that this is a great clone trooper body type, even if it isn't entirely screen accurate. We are quite surprised that Hasbro has resurrected this body since there have been rumors that the casts were over-utilized and needed to be retired, but we're not sure if that means the derivative sculpts like Echo, or the actual all-white clone. (Interestingly. Hasbro always seems to overuse Captain Rex and nothing has deterred them from continually bringing him to us so frequently.) The three clone troopers included in this set look very much the same, yet you can definitely tell them apart. Sgt. Slick (the two-toned hair color clone), Clone Trooper Chopper (the buzz cut clone with the necklace) and Clone Trooper Gus (the bald clone with soul patches) are all wonderful additions to your clone army and to be quite honest, it's great to put names to such generic looking Star Wars characters. Names are all part of the personality of these clone troopers and it brings some color to their very white persona.
Captain Rex is just another slight repaint of the figure we have seen since 2008. He is becoming the "Darth Vader" in The Clone Wars line. It looks like Hasbro is going to find any way possible to continually release him into the line (and besides the basic figure line mind you). As a group, they all look excellent together and bring to life that great story as we all saw in Episode 16 of Season 1. Some dirt would have made these clone troopers look divine, but in all fairness, the episode in which they appear was "inside" and they weren't fighting on the frontlines of war on some planet's terrain. Still, the solid white armor looks peculiar for some reason. While the set doesn't make up flip, we still think it's a deal because it introduces us to three never-before-released clone troopers. And these are three clone troopers we probably would have never received otherwise were it not for this TARGET exclusive. So we are thankful to Hasbro for focusing a multipack on this great scene in The Clone Wars television series. ....The Hidden Enemy.... set is good but you may be looking for more than it provides. We like getting clones with removable helmets and unique portraits, so we're very happy with it. So we hope Hasbro continues to focus giving their multipacks new figures as they did here. This will ensure their continued success!
