Wicket W. Warrick is a loyal, curious and adventurous young Ewok scout when he first meets Princess Leia Organa in the forests of Endor's moon. The lone Ewok finds a strange offworlder knocked unconscious from a speeder bike accident. Tentatively prodding her with his spear, the jittery scout is surprised to find this strange creature not only alive, but friendly as well.
Who is the cutest and cuddliest Star Wars character of all? We’d wager a bet and say it’s Wicket (or Wicket W. Warrick to be more precise), but there are many interpretations out there of what exactly constitutes “cute”. You instead may find Ewok deplorable and the downside of Episode VI. (You would be wrong about that.) While it may not be the manliest of admissions, we have to cave to that sentiment. We absolutely adore Ewoks and we loved the archaic (or less technologically advanced) nature of their species as well as the comedic element they brought to Return Of The Jedi. There is a diminishing group of collectors that do not like the Ewoks or the plot they brought into Episode VI, but we feel confident in stating that the final Star Wars episode would not be the same without them. You won’t find anymore articulation on this figure. After all, the Vinyl Collectible Dolls are not intended to be action figures. But the realistically styled dolls really just help to supplement the Real Action Heroes line as they are beautifully in scale with them.
It’s not too often that Ewoks get immortalized as collectibles, but in recent years, the frequency has increased quite a bit. Medicom Toy decided to make a realistically styled Vinyl Collectible Doll of the most popular Ewok of Episode VI and we have to say we’re very impressed with the final product. These collectibles are made with the intention of not having too much articulation, and in place of articulation, time and energy is spent in developing a beautiful likeness. We think they succeeded for the most part, but we would be lying if we said we wouldn't like to see a little more articulation added here. Wicket isn’t a perfect match to his onscreen character, but he looks great and comes with a non-removable cowl and a separately sculpted spear which are extremely faithful to what we see in the film. It's hard to get the fact that this isn't a one-sixth scale figure out of your mind while looking at him because they fit the Real Action Heroes scale so well. But these are essentially statues.
The orange colored cowl is closely fitted against Wicket’s head and upper body. It has a coarse yet soft feel to it at the same time. It is wonderfully bunched up and wrinkled where it needs to be and just the right portions of his face (as well as his ears) peer through the appropriate holes in it. His arms essentially just move up and down thanks to basic swivel joints. His left arm is best suited for holding his spear thanks to a great curled sculpt in his fingers. And even with this figure’s limited articulation, you are still able to pose him in a way that makes it look like he is going to toss it at any moment. He has been sculpted in a way where it looks like he is about to take a step forward. It isn’t a dramatic pose and he barely looks to be in motion, but he has an awesome center of gravity nonetheless so overall we are very thrilled with this figure. So far, Medicom Toy has also introduced Yoda and a Jawa in this collection as well. It remains to be seen if any others will follow in this scale and style. (We would like to see a few more get created because we truly think they are wonderful collectibles.) The Wicket VCD may not be for your collection, but we think he is worthy of your consideration!
