Sun Fac

Battle of Geonosis

species: geonosian

present: during the trials of anakin and padmé

concurs: they are guilty of treason

A cold and unforgiving Geonosian, Sun Fac is present as Poggle the Lesser presides over Anakin’s and Padmé’s trial. The two are found guilty of treason and sentenced to death in the Geonosian execution arena. Little does this Geonosian and his brethren know that they’re in for a rude awakening once the execution begins.

Did you know that Geonosians had caste systems? How could you tell, right? Apparently if you had some sort of clothing on your body, you were from an upper caste system. Actually, we hear that if you have wings and tusks, you’re an upper caste member and if you’re wingless and without tusks, you’re from the lower caste. But despite how their social system is designed, Hasbro has paid attention to some of these fine details and their interpretation of Sun Fac in the basic figure line is quite astounding. If you think that you had your fill of Geonosians in the 2002 Star Wars line, forget what you know because Sun Fac, with an all-new sculpt, will be the basis for all future Geonosians. Mark our words. With a new scale, new attention to detail and a brilliant paint job, Sun Fac is one of the highlights in The Saga Collection. We never honestly thought we would become excited over a Geonosian action figure. They’re really just big bugs. And since there are so many of them in Episode II, it’s quite hard to keep track and notice all of their details. Sun Fac served as chief lieutenant to Archduke Poggle The Lesser. He was ruthless and intelligent and Poggle The Lesser could count on him to get the job completed. Sun Fac was responsible for charging Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker with espionage. And you know what happened next.

Thanks to an awesome action figure, you can now pay close attentions to these creatures’ characteristics. Sun Fac is so impressive because Hasbro has corrected the lanky and awkward posture of all previous Geonosians in the basic figure line. With the enhanced articulation and updated design, Sun Fac is able to stand upright and naturally without leaning or bending in half to prevent gravity from knocking him down. And to top it off, Sun Fac has the most organic paint job of all the Geonosians to date as he has a real lived in and textured look to his exoskeleton. The head sculpt is wider (bigger) and a lot more detail is able to be captured. Even Sun Fac’s battle-damaged eye has been effortlessly replicated here. Sun Fac not only looks great, he’s also well articulated. He comes with a whopping 20 points of articulation. This includes standard swivel articulation as well as premium ball-jointed articulation. Sadly the figure has no knee articulation. Lastly, the figure have two (2) extra points for its articulated wings. The incorporation of ball-jointed ankles does wonders for the Geonosian species. The feet were always the place on the older sculpts that wouldn’t lay right to keep the figures from being posed naturally. That is all remedied now as you can adjust the ankles any which way you desire to attain your intended pose. The legs are uniform to each other and are free from any wide stances. Sun Fac is well designed from top to bottom.

Sun Fac comes outfitted with an all new and very tall staff. Hasbro designed his left hand to hold this perfectly. He also comes with a repainted and modified sonic blaster that originally came with 2002’s SW [S - P1] Flying Geonosian (With Sonic Blaster And Attack Pod) Deluxe figure. Together, Sun Fac is clearly well-armed and ready to take on anyone who is fighting against the Separatist movement. Sun Fac can be seen clearly in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones when our heroes were being fed to the beasts in the Geonosis Arena. As Count Dooku sentences them, Sun Fac and Poggle The Lesser are standing right behind him. There is no doubt that a new Geonosian into the basic figure line is inevitable. But will a character like Sun Fac be popular amongst kids and collectors? He is definitely a collector focused character. The updated articulation and excellent sculpt and paint job are clearly for collectors. But there should be enough included here to impress the kids. Sun Fac may have not had the biggest role in Episode II, but he did have a major one in the Republic Commando video game. Interestingly, Scorch (Republic Commando) (SAGA 021) is in the same wave as Sun Fac. We don’t think this was an accident. With all the clamoring for EU and video game characters, Hasbro can say they knocked out a few at once. (And they technically did.) Sun Fac is a pure joy. He’s definitely worth checking out!
