Before the beginning of the Clone Wars, little attention was paid by the people of the Republic to the barren world of Geonosis. The discovery of a Separatist stronghold by Obi-Wan Kenobi, however, and his subsequent capture, led the Jedi to dispatch reinforcements to the desert world. There, on the vast alkali plains of this blasted and rocky world, the first battle of the Clone Wars was fought, and the name of Geonosis was forever seared into the pages of galactic history.

The Battle Of Geonosis Battle Packs set is a nightmare. Hasbro certainly knew how to sell us a bridge when it came to the unnecessary Battle Packs in the 30 (77-07) line. Including a key character like Jango Fett nearly ensures sales and that’s exactly what they did to promote the Battle Packs that really weren’t needed by collectors. But it’s not necessarily the choice of action figures that makes this set a waste of time and energy for you. Even if you may have needed Aayla Secura, Jango Fett, Count Dooku, Obi-Wan Kenobi or another Super Battle Droid for your collection, this wasn’t the way to attain them. Due to poor packaging, the figures came to us mangled as a result of poor positioning or placement and tight rubber bands that warped the life out of the plastics. What makes this set worse is that it is so loosely based on multiple scenes in Attack Of The Clones that it’s really hard to source this set. We’ve chosen Attack Of The Clones by default because even Obi-Wan Kenobi appears based on his Clone Wars appearance!

The Battle Of Geonosis Battle Packs set is a hodgepodge of some of the more inferior quality figures released by Hasbro. There are exceptions to our claim. But why in the world would Hasbro include old versions of a Super Battle Droid, Count Dooku, Jango Fett and even Obi-Wan Kenobi when there were or are better base sculpts available? We’re not entirely sure, but even the odd character choices don’t seem to fit that well. The Battle Of Geonosis set would have been significantly better had Hasbro included about three Jedi (at least one new) and two Separatist Droids to finish it off. There was no need for another Jango Fett and Count Dooku especially, and definitely not the iterations of them they chose. And don’t even get us started about the included Obi-Wan Kenobi figure. Hasbro took the 2003 CW Obi-Wan Kenobi (General Of The Republic Army) ('03 #45) figure and threw it in this pack. What’s worse is that they assembled his backpack (which he didn’t have in Episode II) incorrectly.

We are the biggest proponents of the Battle Packs line but perhaps a little more creativity is needed before Hasbro agrees on a certain concept. The reason for Battle Packs is a mixed bag. Hasbro definitely caters to collectors, especially with the exclusive sets, but there also seems to be attention given to the kids’ market. But a set like the Battle Of Geonosis doesn’t seem to draw either side as far as we’re concerned. Just like the packaging on junk breakfast cereal for kids, the outside of the box is more appealing than the contents. The back of the box has a beautifully photographed scene and perhaps if we had the same background (or play-set) that the figures in the picture have too, we imagine this set would be much more appealing. With Hasbro getting better and better making awesome Star Wars action figures for us, all of the figures will see incredible updates eventually. You’ll just have to decide if you can find a reason for purchasing this set for your own collection. We think that will be a grueling task.

Jango Fett

Secretive, silent and pitiless, Jango Fett was a consummate warrior, nearly the equal of many Jedi in single combat. Serving as bodyguard to Count Dooku on Geonosis, he leapt without hesitation into the battle against the massed force of Jedi Knights, only to fall against the great Jedi Master Mace Windu.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Wise beyond his years, Obi-Wan Kenobi displayed an unusual amount of skill for a Jedi Master his age. As a result, he was often chosen for some of the most dangerous and sensitive missions, including tracking the deadly Jango Fett to his paymasters on Geonosis.

Count Dooku

A political idealist and former Jedi, Count Dooku was the architect of the Separatist movement, as well as the secret hand behind many of the most brutal and violent battles of the Clone Wars. Though he presented a refined veneer, it was he who ordered the execution of Anakin, Padme and Obi-Wan on Geonosis.

Aayla Secura

This beautiful and highly intelligent Jedi Knight was one of the 200 Jedi sent to Geonosis to free their captured brethren. She was one of the few to survive the battle in the Geonosian execution arena, and took command of a clone trooper division in the subsequent attack on Separatist forces.

Status: Aayla Secura is a slight repaint of 2005's ROTS Aayla Secura (III 32) figure.
