Foul Moudama - TSC - Basic (SAGA 029)

The last few chapters of Volume 2 of the Tartakovsky Clone Wars series included some of the most thrilling moments in all of the Star Wars saga. In fact, the last three chapters that starred Shaak Ti, Roron Corobb and Foul Moudama remain some of the most engaging moments that connect a lot of the missing dots to the events that transpired directly prior to the opening sequence of Revenge Of The Sith. The three Jedi are on a mission to protect Chancellor Palpatine from the evil General Grievous. Unfortunately, the Jedi have no idea that they are being deceived and two-thirds of them end up dying before the Chancellor makes it to complete safety. Foul Moudama, the big and brawny Talz Jedi stole the hearts of Star Wars fans with his antics and agility in the final episodes of the Clone Wars. After all, we first saw his species in the very first Star Wars film and it was fantastic to see the species in Jedi status kicking major Separatist backside.

Part of the fan favorite The Saga Collection, Foul Moudama will likely go unappreciated by many, but fans of Tartakovsky’s series will absolutely adore him. You should know that the base sculpt is from 1998, so articulation is not this figure’s strong point. But despite this, Hasbro did an excellent job on him the first time and he’s aged quite well since. For Foul Moudama, Hasbro has repainted the figure and added a newly sculpted Jedi tunic. It fits him like a glove and it’s surprisingly well-tailored for a plastic molded accessory. Our favorite accessories however are his boots. Foul Moudama may be the only Star Wars action figure to date with removable boots and it's a feature we’d love to see on other action figures. He also comes with a blue lightsaber but due to the ways his hands are sculpted, he’s unable to hold it. His hand has a wide grasp, so a retool of a hand would have been necessary for him to hold any lightsaber hilt.

Is Foul Moudama perfect? Absolutely not, but he’s very well done and Hasbro cleverly found a use to the figure designed years ago. The more Hasbro can reuse and reinvent only helps them to save on tooling costs so they can bring us all-new versions of other characters. Foul Moudama is technically a novelty figure with a niche audience. So it makes sense why Hasbro may have had reservations about making an all-new sculpt for this character. We think he would still have been successful as an all-new sculpt, but this version fits in wonderfully as in into our collections now. We hope that Hasbro can keep bringing more and more characters from Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars into the basic figure line. Some of the best stuff in the Star Wars universe can be found in these short stories and the animation is breathtaking. Thankfully, Hasbro can translate the animation unbelievably well into realism as evidenced by Foul Moudama. This is a figure not to miss.
