Lieutenant Thire and clone troopers Rys and Jek accompany Yoda to Rugosa, where they are attacked by battle droids. Thire urges Yoda to leave them behind and go to the rendezvous site alone, but the Jedi refuses to leave anyone behind. When Rys says their situation is dire, Yoda encourages him to find inspiration in his comrades and himself.
The opening The Clone Wars television episode Ambush was a greta way to start off the series. Nearly a year after the television show’s debut, Hasbro decided to unofficially commemorate it by releasing two special Walmart exclusive two-packs. The Lieutenant Thire & Clone Trooper Rys set introduces two new clone troopers for kids and collectors who are members of the Coruscant Guard, a battalion of clones that will quickly become fan favorites. (Editor’s Note: Lieutenant Thire was repainted and released as 2009’s TCW Clone Commander Thire (CW32) later in the basic figure line.) Well outfitted with cool and fun weaponry and super-articulated, these two new clone troopers will ironically add diversity into your ever-growing clone collection. Retailing for a very fair $12.96, they will be cheaper to attain for your collection in this manner than if Hasbro decides to release both as basic figures somewhere down the road. (Right now only Commander Thire is being released as a basic figure.)
Clone Commander Thire is very nicely painted and comes with many accessories. They include a removable helmet with rangefinder, two DC-17 blaster pistols, a DC-15 blaster and a rocket launcher with a firing projectile. Clone Trooper Rys comes with a removable helmet, a DC-15 blaster and a removable backpack. You get a lot of parts and accessories for the price and the action figures look incredible cool when posed with them. The armor is pristinely white unfortunately and we would love to see Hasbro give their clone troopers a little more grit and grime. But apparently ever increasing tooling costs are hampering that tremendously. Each clone trooper has a unique head sculpt and you can definitely tell them apart from each other when they’re helmets are off of their heads. And they look fantastic as a group. We’d love to see additional members of the Coruscant Guard see release as well in the future.
These Walmart exclusive two-packs are based on the scene where the clone troopers from the Coruscant accompany Yoda to Rugosa where they are ambushed by various Battle Droids. The clones urge Yoda to meet at the scheduled rendezvous point as planned and leave them behind, but as is true with any action of Yoda, he would rather stay and help than leave the clones on their own. It was certainly a very exciting episode in The Clone Wars franchise and we hope the television show keeps this pace up throughout its duration. We highly recommend these two-packs. Each contains an exclusive action figure (until they get released elsewhere) and we’ve already mentioned they’re bargains. (Editor’s Note: Although these two-packs started off as Walmart exclusives, the two-packs didn’t sell well enough and remaining units were shipped to Toys R Us as their exclusives.)
