Yoda, Lieutenant Thire and clone troopers Jek and Rys are ambushed by battle droids on Rugosa. The troopers doubt they can prevail since they are greatly outnumbered. Yoda helps Jek see that weapons do not necessarily mean victory and that the mind is also a powerful weapon that they can use to out-think the droids.
There are a lot of morals in The Clone Wars television show and many of them are quite blatant and not buried as subtext. Yoda’s prolific wisdom transcends beyond the Jedi he has trained and even uses some of his teaching to encourage the Clone Trooper Jek during the Battle of Rugosa. And that’s exactly where Hasbro got the idea for the 2 of 2 two-pack that was made into a Walmart exclusive. The second set of figures based on the hugely popular Ambush episode of The Clone Wars brings all-new Clone Trooper Jek to the table and an interestingly repainted version of Yoda. Just like the 1 of 2 multipack, the included clone is well outfitted with a large chain gun, a removable bandolier and helmet. This was certainly a quick way for us to get three members of the Coruscant Guard into our collections. But what is more exciting than that is that they come to us well made and super-articulated.
We’ve already mentioned that Yoda is a repaint. He now comes in a lime green color and he looks rather bright. But keep in mind that he is just a repaint of the 2009 TCW [R] Yoda (CW14) figure. We're not entirely sure which one grabs us more. We like the brighter color, but are unsure if it's that accurate or not. This is of course the best Yoda sculpt to date and we’re so thankful that Hasbro didn’t go cheap on us and instead repaint the 2008 TCW [B] Yoda (No. 3) figure with all of the terrible action figures instead. That would have been a travesty had they decided to go that route. Hasbro does however forgo Yoda’s cane for this release, but this actually makes quite a bit of sense since this is an exclusive based on battle. Yoda only needs to brandish his lightsaber in events like this so we don’t mind at all. The soft-goods cloak is also carried forward and we still feel that it has been made backwards (or inside out rather) as the tapestry side of the fabric is on the outside instead of the inside.
Clone Trooper Jek on the other hand comes with a plethora of accessories. In addition to the firing chain gun with projectile and 2 DC-17 blaster pistols, he also comes with a rocket launcher. Clone Trooper Jek, like most other clones has a fantastic center of gravity so despite how large the guns he comes with are you’ll have no problems at all posing them with him. This figure is a fine specimen and is simply but very well decorated and is a perfect companion for Yoda, especially since they share some dialogue in the television show. Hasbro has also confirmed that Clone Trooper Jek will be arriving in the basic figure line in 2010 as well. (Editor’s Note: 2010’s TCW [R] Clone Trooper Jek (CW38) has been repainted and is technically different from the Walmart exclusive version.) This is great news because it is very likely that many collectors won’t see another need to repurchase Yoda even though the paint jobs are unique. We recommend these Walmart exclusives and you should definitely pick them up for sure.
