If you’ve been collecting since the neo-classic era, you’re well aware that Hasbro has been making the absolute best action figures of their long and illustrious career for about the last half-decade, give or take. But some action figures date back further and have the inability to age. They get released repeatedly and don’t get boring in the basic figure line. One such figure is 2004’s VOTC Boba Fett figure. With just a few minimal updates, Hasbro effortlessly incorporates this action figure into the stunning The Vintage Collection basic figure line. Interestingly, this version of Boba Fett is a “chase variation” and is not meant to last long or be carried forward after wave 8 dries up. But you should do yourself a favor and try to get this figure into your collection because, quite honestly, Boba Fett hasn’t looked better. We believe just a few minor (and perhaps insignificant) tweaks have helped Boba Fett out more than expected. Although we have received this exact figure on a Return Of The Jedi card in The Original Trilogy Collection “vintage” assortment, there is something quite exceptional about getting this figure on a Revenge Of The Jedi card back now.
When this figure was released in 2004, the paint job was excellent. Hasbro carried forward an almost identical paint job for this 2011 release, but now the maroons are more profound, and the greens are richer. And practically glowing now, the silver battle-damage markings look amazing. They’ve also cleaned up his jetpack details tremendously, and we have noticed things we haven’t picked up on until now. We have also noticed that the legs seem ever so slightly repositioned, and they help Boba Fett maintain balance much more easily now. Collectors will also be thrilled to know that Boba Fett has tightened-up joints, which offer priceless flexibility when deciding on the best pose for the figure. The jetpack stays in place, but we did notice that it effortlessly pops off, including bumping it when posing the action figure. The soft-good cape still nicely tucks behind the jetpack and lies closely to the back of the figure. The finely detailed metals, scrapes, scratches, and dents look as magnificent as they always have, but perhaps they appear a little more sharpened and brighter for this release. Boba Fett is a Star Wars character that fans hero worship, and you’ll find difficulty doing the same for this action figure.
We all know how difficult the figures from The Vintage Collection have been to find. And then add a “chase” element to a figure, which will be impossible to find. While this figure is labeled VC09 on the back of the packaging, it’s completely different from the 2010 TVC Boba Fett (VC09) figure. You might be interested in the fact that this figure has an entirely different assortment number and UPC. Hasbro intended to release this figure as an all-new version of Boba Fett. If we had one complaint about this release of Boba Fett, we would have wished that Hasbro had used the running change card back from the vintage Kenner line. And it would have been perfect for this style of Boba Fett because the running change of the 80s was based on a scene from Return Of The Jedi. Hasbro has admitted that these nods to the vintage Kenner line would be a great idea, but they have yet to act. We hope they can incorporate it at some point in The Vintage Collection. The VOTC sculpt of Boba Fett has seen multiple releases. It was part of the Saga Legends line in 2007 and used for 2010’s SW [SOTDS] Boba Fett (Orphan To Bounty Hunter) Toys R Us exclusive, and now for this basic figure release. But this one is the greatest. Find it!
