Darkness descends over the galaxy as Palpatine's power increases and Darth Vader joins him as his Sith apprentice. The former Anakin Skywalker is unaware that his beloved Padmé gave birth to twins after their final meeting. And if those children are to remain alive, he must never know they exist. So Obi-Wan secretly brings Leia to Bail Organa and his wife, who will raise her as their daughter. Then he travels to Tatooine, where Owen and Beru Lars become the guardians of their nephew, Luke Skywalker.
As Hasbro started phasing out the Revenge Of The Sith line In preparation for The Saga Collection’s arrival, they released two exclusive figures (that actually shipped in a shelf talker with other ROTS figures) at the end of the year that collectors couldn’t wait to purchase. Both 2005's TSC Infant Leia Organa (With Bail Organa) and 2005's TSC Infant Luke Skywalker (With Obi-Wan Kenobi) were released to thunderous applause by collectors. These figures were not at all easy to locate at retail and it disappointed many. A little over two years later however, Hasbro found a way to get them back out to collectors, although, they would arrive differently but interestingly at the same exclusive retailer. Whereas these exclusive basic figures headlined the infant accessories as the headline and the 3.75” action figures as the accessories, the converse was done for a special Comic Packs set which included revised versions of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Bail Organa as well as new interpretations of the twins. The color used for the twins’ blankets may be a little too exaggerated and bright, but we still think this set as a whole looks pretty fine.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is a slight repaint of 2006’s TSC Obi-Wan Kenobi (SAGA 028) action figure. Just like the 2006 The Saga Collection figure, Obi-Wan comes with the same soft-goods as before (as the plastic molded cloak has been eliminated thank goodness for the Comic Packs release) and a few other tweaks were made to his paint job as well. We suppose these were done to make him look a little more comic-like we suppose. Who knows? Baby Luke Skywalker is now no longer sleeping with eyes wide open and he’s also wrapped in a swaddling blue blanket instead of the yellow one from the original Walmart exclusive basic figure. Bail Organa is impressively updated from 2005's ROTS Bail Organa (III 15) figure. He now sports and all-new soft goods outer robe woven from a green material. Hasbro expertly incorporated equidistant pleating around the neck and chest areas and it looks absolutely gorgeous and nicely fitted. The figure doesn’t have the greatest articulation, but the soft-goods update is fantastic. Baby Leia moves from a light blue blanket to a bight pink blanket. It looks a little bit too predictable, but it and everything else matches what we see in the comic adaptation of Revenge Of The Sith perfectly, so as a result we’re very happy with how everything turned out.
We love the soft-goods updated to the Obi-Wan Kenobi and Bail Organa figures, but we’d probably have to say that the infants from the single carded Walmart exclusive figures are more accurate and better detailed. Hasbro seemed to take more time decorating the infants (accessories) and they definitely turned out better as a result. But no matter which you prefer, it’s nice to know that Hasbro made a concerted effort to get these back out to collectors, even if they are exclusive again to the same exact retailer. And for this second release, it’s a much better deal. You get the two basic figures, the two infant accessories and a reproduction comic book for less than $12. That’s a bargain no matter how you slice it. Keep in mind that although this is a second time offering, it is shipping only one per case and we suspect that in the long run that the Comic Packs version may be the more difficult to find as the years go by. (We have no proof of this and it is just our gut feelings.) The Obi-Wan Kenobi/Bail Organa Comic Packs set is a lot of fun. Besides, what more could you ask for. The infant accessories have been flawlessly designed to interact with Obi-Wan and Bail and now you can protect them from Darth Vader finding out where they are.
