Chewbacca - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures

Digitally scanned from mint 3 ¾" Kenner originals and reproduced to a substantial 12" tall. Nothing has been overlooked. Injection molded and made of durable plastics, this jumbo figure includes a faithfully reproduced blaster and is fully articulated! That's not all, this classic Kenner creation comes packaged on a 1978, Star Wars inspired blister card with a plastic outer clam shell to help protect and display this limited edition convention exclusive!

What young Star Wars fan that grew up in the late seventies and early to mid eighties didn’t have a Kenner Chewbacca figure? And if you were very fortunate, you probably had Chewbacca with a green crossbow that came in the mail to you! The vintage Kenner Star Wars action figures are some of the most sought after collectibles of all time. And there is something about them that makes them impossible for those that grew up with them to part with permanently. You may toss them in a shoebox somewhere, but it’s likely you will never throw them away. George Lucas somehow knew that Star Wars is forever and out unwillingness to part with those now classic toys only proves this over and over again. Gentle Giant Ltd.. has made it a mission of theirs to attack the four Early Bird figures as soon as possible in their popular Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line and Chewbacca is just perfect: small and large scale.

Chewbacca comes packaged in a very large package to mimic the packaging from the 70s. He comes with a large-scaled version of his famous crossbow and it still attaches to his arm in the same manner that the 3.75” figure did. The white and blue paint to color his eyes is almost perfectly matched. And the white and dark brown paint used to color his bandolier and pouch respectively couldn’t look better. What we do find a tinge odd is the matte look of his appearance in general. The brown plastic used to cast this figures looks slightly dull. Every small action figure of Chewbacca we have come across throughout the years has a slightly shiny appearance. This is more of an observation and not really a complaint, but the final result does make Chewbacca feel a little different than the action figure that was part of our childhood. Looking a little more like a hunk of milk chocolate than a large version of the classic action figure, Chewbacca should have a little more sheen on his coat of fur.

Chewbacca stands rather tall and erect and really doesn’t lean to one side of the other. He comes with four points of articulation and the aforementioned crossbow that secures nicely to his right arm. He seems a little hollow in all honestly, but so were the 3.75” scaled figures, so this is very authentic to our toys of yesteryear. The Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line has been focusing on figures that make up the original 12 backs (with a few exceptions). Gentle Giant Ltd.. has given very little indication of their intentions with this line. Will it go beyond the first Star Wars film and into The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi lines? Will they ever attack The Power Of The Force line and include large metal coins in them? The line nonetheless seems to be an overall success so it seems that nothing is off of the table as far as what Gentle Giant Ltd.. will include here. We hope they keep running with it!
