Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Master) - Order Of The Jedi - 1:6 Scale Figures

The embodiment of Jedi ideals, Obi-Wan Kenobi is both wise and strong. His patience and keen powers of observation have served him well as one of the Jedi Order's most masterful negotiators. These qualities are matched in measure by his swiftness and skill with a lightsaber, making him Master Yoda's first choice for many unconventional missions. Dependable and trustworthy are traits the Jedi Council has come to associate with Obi-Wan, and his successes in the Outer Rim campaign have earned him a seat among their number by the final days of the Clone Wars.

Having taken on the training of Anakin Skywalker since the death of his own Master Qui-Gon Jinn on Naboo, Obi-Wan has tutored the young Jedi in the ways of the Force to the best of his ability and the two have become fast friends, remaining together long after Anakin's graduation to full Jedi Knight. Their trust in one another and complimentary styles have helped mold them into a virtually unstoppable team in battle, equally dangerous to Separatist enemies whether flying wingtip to wingtip in space or fighting back to back with lightsabers on the ground. Even in the company of famous Jedi warriors such as the lethally efficient Agen Kolar, starfighter-ace Saesee Tiin or swift Kit Fisto, Obi-Wan and Anakin have gained flashy reputations as the Republic's champions in the Outer Rim Sieges.

Called home to Coruscant by a Separatist attack, Obi-Wan is Anakin's most fervent supporter when the tempestuous Jedi's loyalties are questioned by the Council. While he is wary of Anakin's darker side, Obi-Wan has faith in his friend's innate goodness and ability to master his own passions and formidable power. Even when sent by Yoda to Utapau in search of General Grievous, a mission Anakin sorely coveted, Obi-Wan's confidence in his troubled former apprentice is unshaken. They part as friends and brothers, unaware that the next time they meet, it will be to fight to the death.

One theme you see us repeat over and over again in this column is that Obi-Wan Kenobi's portrait/likeness/head sculpt is always like pizza. Even if they’re bad, they’re still good. And more often than not they are really good. It must be something about the facial structures of both Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor that make it easy for licensees to duplicate it into plastic and polystone with such grace and distinction. While we are generalizing here of course (as we have come across one or two pitiful Obi-Wan Kenobi likenesses in our lifetime), it goes without saying that Obi-Wan Kenobi collectibles tend to please rather than dismay. Sideshow Collectibles' first stab at a 1:6 Scale Figure version of Obi-Wan Kenobi was based on his look for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. At this point in the saga, Obi-Wan Kenobi has already become a Jedi Master and you’ll see a maturity in this sculpt no doubt in part directly related to this coming of age. Sideshow utilizes the Art S. Buck body type again (a setback of course), but doctors it up like they do with so many of the figures by including incredible soft-goods, fun accessories, an awesome exclusive accessory and of course a brilliant likeness that will hold up extremely well over time.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s head sculpt is spot on as far as we’re concerned. Details ranging from the style of his hair to the small distinguishing moles on his face are expertly replicated in astonishing details and then things just get better when you analyze the scaled replica costume he is wearing. His shirt, vest and sash are beautifully woven from an imitation crepe wool fiber. This type of fabric gives bounce and body to Obi-Wan’s outfit as well as the illusion of many layers of clothing. The clothing hangs close to his body and keeps his athletic build visible and the brown outer robe is not only a nice complement to his lightly colored Jedi gear, but it too also hangs close to his frame without appearing too bulky or out of shape. His cordovan boots have been etched with the dirt from the galaxy. They are shiny, yet have incredible character from obvious overuse. They’ve been casted thickly and have quite a bit of mass for an accessory of this type. His Jedi belt is loaded with the same things previous Jedi in the Order Of The Jedi sub-collection have been given and everything is tied together magnificently by a healthy dose of accessories, some of which are new to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The typical aqua breather, holoprojector and lightsabers are all here for you to enjoy, but exclusive collectors are treated to General Grievous’ blaster which may be one of the best, albeit simplest, exclusives Sideshow Collectibles has included yet with a 1:6 Scale Figure. Sideshow has created an unbelievable scaled replica of General Grievous’ blaster and this alone should prove to collectors that Sideshow should be in the scaled replicas business too. It has a slightly brittle feel to it so we’d like to warn you not to abuse it, but its detail and they way it fits in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s hand is sheer perfection. One thing we have to question however is that Sideshow promises collectors that exclusives accessories will never be repeated. But when they produce Battle Droid figures, does this mean that the Battle Droids are not going to come with this accessory? That would be a shame. (Maybe there is a small detail that makes Grievous’ version unique. Who really knows this for sure?!) Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Master) is absolutely one of the best human Jedi Sideshow has created to date. We really didn’t expect any less from them, but we’re thrilled how the final figure came out. There is so much to look forward to in Sideshow Collectibles’ 1:6 Scale Figure line and it is very exciting.
