Clone Commander Gree serves under Jedi Knight Luminara Unduli in the Clone Wars and refers to his troops as Green Company. Aboard the frigate delivering the captured Nute Gunray to Coruscant, Gree shuns the Neimoidian's shameless attempts at bribe.
Gentle Giant Ltd. made it one of the primary goals to bring a line of Maquettes to Star Wars collectors. At the time the did this, Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars micro-series was all the rage and they initially developed five spectacular collectible Maquettes based on some of the most popular characters in the series. (The line continued beyond the original five too.) The Maquettes line slowly included animated takes on characters from the Star Wars films as well and those quickly became hits with collectors as well. It only made sense that when the Filoni The Clone Wars multimedia event came to pass that Gentle Giant Ltd. would capitalize on the successful line and make new Maquettes based on thee characters as well and that’s exactly what they did. Cleverly selecting the most popular characters from the television show, The Clone Wars Maquettes line offers collectors a tangible collectibles of the awesome characters from the well-received series.
While the line can’t be as broad as the basic action figure line by Hasbro, Gentle Giant Ltd. can still take some creative liberties and release some B-list characters into the mix as well. Commander Gree gets a cherished place in the Maquettes line as a very well developed sculpt that will undoubtedly make collectors of polystone collectibles smile from ear to ear. The first thing that stands out on Commander Gree is his paint job. When you see The Clone Wars characters in this scale and with this stunning paint job it makes you realize just how much is lacking in the Hasbro basic figure line. The sculptors at Gentle Giant Ltd. take the time to add the finest details possible to their works of art and the respective painters bring the pieces to life with incredible talent. Gree is full of scratches, scrapes and various other markings which show the collector that The Clone Wars are about seriously battling to secure the Republic’s freedom. (You wouldn’t guess this from Hasbro’s figures – they’re all too clean.)
Gentle Giant Ltd. has Gree standing tall and athletically at attention at the ready with a DC-15 blaster rifle. The rifle is extremely long and we wonder if the smaller DC-15 blaster would have been more appropriate here. There is a holster and strap attached to his right thigh, a detail that Hasbro missed on their action figure interpretation of Commander Gree and Gentle Giant Ltd. also mastered the angle of the green color flashes on his helmet much better than Hasbro did as well. (Hasbro’s 2009 TCW Commander Gree (CW09) action figure has the green color on the helmet coming too smoothly at an angle down the front of his helmet.) The armor pieces perfectly match how they appear on the small screen and they are dusted with dirt from the various battles in The Clone Wars. One of the finer The Clone Wars Maquettes produced to date, we highly recommend this for lovers of the 41st Elite Corps or just lovers of all things “Commander Gree." Make your friends "Gree" with envy by adding it to your collection!
